Gerrit Cole, Yankees

Gerrit Cole, the New York Yankees ace and reigning AL CY Young pitcher is having an ordinary season. He spent two months on IL due to elbow injury sustained in spring training. While he made a delayed debut in June, his last five starts have been shaky and uncharacteristic to say the least.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees couldn’t add any upgrade to the starting rotation at the recently passed trade deadline. Hence, they will bank of Gerrit Cole to stay consistent and healthy throughout the year. Meanwhile, Cole’s latest start was scratched at the last moment and his future participation in pending fitness test.

The New York Yankees fans were left stunned and concerned at the same time when ace Gerrit Cole was scratched off his scheduled start against the Phillies on Tuesday. Cole was replaced by rookie prospect Will Warren just hours before the first pitch. While Warren had a decent debut, Cole’s absence struck a wave of uncertainty. Meanwhile, the reigning AL CY Young pitcher claimed that his sudden scratch was a result of body fatigue. He didn’t recover well from his last start against the Mets. And while he was open to continuing, the Yankee leadership overruled his request to avert the risk of aggravation. Having said that, Gerrit Cole assured the fans that the absence on Tuesday wasn’t related to injury.

On Wednesday, Gerrit Cole played catch and reported no issues whatsoever. New York Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake confirmed that the reigning CY Young pitcher will hit a bullpen session on Friday, and if all things go well, he will start on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Yankee Stadium. Notably, Gerrit Cole owns a 5.40 ERA across 7 starts this season. His command has been shaky and not remotely close to what it was the previous year when he won his career’s first CY Young award. Moreover, with Gerrit being a key figure in the Yankee roster, even the slightest discomfort could lead to prolonged absence as the club wouldn’t risk him for a dime. Having said that, it’s still unclear who will take Gerrit Cole’s place if he struggles to return to the mound on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Brian Cashman Reveals Actual Reason Behind Jack Flaherty’s Fallout

Despite being the leading suitors, the New York Yankees failed to trade Tigers ace Jack Flaherty at the recently concluded trade deadline. LA Dodgers, instead, acquired him in exchange of two prospects. Meanwhile, while injury history was believed to be the reason behind Yanks hesitation, Brian Cashman suggested otherwise.

The New York Yankees general manager revealed that front office couldn’t match up his value. “I would’ve brought Jack Flaherty in if I could’ve matched up, and I had difficulty matching up,” Brian Cashman said in a press conference on Wednesday. He didn’t necessarily imply that concerning injury history of the starting pitcher was a factor in the failed pursuit.
