The New York Yankees intend to barge into the 2023 MLB season to claim the championship title they have awaited for 13 years. Last year, the Yanks were knocked out by the Houston Astros in the ALCS. Hence, the Yankee front office stayed hyperactive in the ongoing off-season. They retained Aaron Judge and bought Carlos Rodon in huge long-term contracts.

Moreover, the Bombers invested in their existing roster. They renewed three contracts, including the one of Frankie Montas, just on the day of the trade deadline. However, injury struck the Bombers way before the season actually began. The spring training will begin around mid-February, and ahead of the training, Frankie Montas has injured his shoulder. Moreover, a former MLB general manager feels that the injury is serious and is a matter of grave concern for the Yanks.

Ruben Amaro Jr. Says Montas’s Injury Will Hurt The Yankees

Frankie Montas has dealt with recurring injuries all his career. The pitcher injured his shoulder in the 2022 post-season, which ruled him out of the tournament. However, ahead of the 2023 season, the Yankees assured that Frankie is healthy. However, a few days ago, New York Post reported that Montas is having trouble with his shoulder yet again. Apparently, his right shoulder is highly inflamed. Moreover, the inflammation will take about 8-10 weeks to recover. As a result, Frankie Montas will miss the first entire month of the 2023 MLB season.

Meanwhile, former Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., spoke about Montas and said that his injury is a matter of huge concern for the Yankees. Ruben added that he likes Montas’ gameplay, and it is unfortunate what is happening to him right now. Further, he said the Yankees do have depth in the pitching rotation, but in the long run, it is going to hurt them for sure. Incidentally, Brian Cashman did mention once that Frankie Montas will feature in the starting rotation for the Yankees.

“Frankie Montas has got to be a huge concern for the Yankees,” said Ruben Amaro Jr.

Frankie Montas Re-Signed With Yankees To Avoid Arbitration

Oakland Athletics traded Frankie Montas to New York Yankees last year. However, his time at the Yanks bullpen was short-lived as after just eight games, Frankie went down with a shoulder injury. Hence, during the off-season, rumors started spreading that Montas could lose his seat in the bullpen, especially after the induction of Carlos Rodon. However, just on the day of the trade deadline, Frankie Montas agreed on a one-year contract with the Bombers in a bid to avoid arbitration.

The Yankee front office is in a fix now that Montas’ is gone. They planned to place Frankie in the starting rotation in the 5th place. However, now they will look for replacements. FYI, they have another injured pitcher in the name of Michael King. Hence, the options are limited for now. Clarke Schmidt and Domingo German are the front runners for the time being.
