The 2022 Formula One season has been a forgetful one for one of the most successful F1 teams, Mercedes. The team has struggled through the entire season in both driver\’s and constructor\’s championships. With only five races remaining in the season, Mercedes is still searching for its first win in the season. Meanwhile, recently, the team claimed that they had identified the mistake which has caused their abysmal season.

Mercedes Identified Mistake Behind Its Failures!

Mercedes are now having trouble in F1 after eight seasons of total dominance in the sport. The abrupt demise of the eight-time World Champions in F1 Constructors would have been unfathomable. Following significant regulatory changes, new generations of automobiles debuted in 2022. Inhibiting better duels and enhancing the racing component of Formula One were the goals of this. However, Mercedes is most harmed by the modifications made to the new vehicles.

As Ferrari and Red Bull sped by Mercedes in the early races of the season, the Silver Arrows\’ vehicle found it difficult to maintain pace. It was challenging for the driver to control the W13 because of the significant straight-line bouncing and high speeds. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton frequently operated the vehicles to get points. The team is on track to finish third in the constructor\’s title, trailing only the dominant Red Bull and a revitalized Ferrari. This is the first time since 2011 that the team has gone without a race victory to its credit in a season.

While this was going on, Mercedes CEO Mike Elliott recently stated that his staff had been steadily trying to fix a design flaw with this year\’s model. This has had a negative effect on their drivers\’ outcomes. According to Elliott, the problem has been known to the team for some time. However, he acknowledged that until the season finished, the problem could not be remedied.

Mike shared these insights during a recent interview on the Beyond the Grid podcast. During the conversation, Elliot stated, \”You look at how we created the automobile, and I can point to one occasion last year where we did something where I think we made a mistake.\” Elliott did not specify the error, although it is assumed that there was a problem with the car\’s floor. Mercedes has not yet said whether they will continue with their present 2022 design or develop a brand-new idea.

When Mercedes unveiled their original design during the official F1 pre-season test in Bahrain, it aroused questions since it seemed to violate the rules\’ intent. The W13\’s performance will be important despite its shortcomings when compared to its forerunners. The team will certainly examine its mistakes over the winter break so that it can return to its successful ways.
