Fernando Alonso Mocks Lewis Hamilton For “Getting Old” After The Latter’s Comments On Red Bull

Lewis Hamilton- Fernando Alonso

Lewis Hamilton- Fernando Alonso

It is known to every Formula One fan that Lewis Hamilton is not in his finest form anymore. There was a phase a not very long time ago when other teams would be confused about how to beat the seven-time champion. There was no stopping for Hamilton. But at present, those days look like century-old folklore.

Neither Lewis Hamilton is able to find his way to title contention, nor is Mercedes able to give him a car to help him get there. At present, Hamilton is lagging far behind. After the second Free Practice of the Australian Grand Prix this year, he finished at P13. Even his teammate, George Russell, seems to have a better grip on the W14 car than he does. Amid this, his long-time rival, Fernando Alonso, has taken the opportunity to mock the seven-time work champion.

After the second Free Practice in Australia, the oldest driver on the grid, Fernando Alonso, gained the first position with Aston Martin. On the other hand, Mercedes’ George Russell finished at P4. Albeit, it looks like Red Bull still has the edge over the other teams in the current season. The two drivers of the Milton Keynes team are still holding the first two positions in the championship standings. But the team closest to beating them at present is Aston Martin, with the two-time champion, Fernando Alonso.

Although Lewis Hamilton does not think it is possible to beat Red Bull this year. They are just too fast. He feels that he has not seen a faster car than the RB19. The seven-time winner says, “even when we were dominating everybody on the grid, we weren’t as fast as the Red Bull is now.” However, Hamilton’s former teammate back in McLaren days, Alonso, denied that claim. The great Spanish claims that at the Grand Prix in Saudia Arabia this season, he fell only 20 seconds behind Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. Alonso says, “Lewis Hamilton is getting old, and that’s why he forgets a lot of old memories. Back in 2014 and 2015, Mercedes, with him and Nico, was a minute faster.” Hence, Alonso feels that he can certainly beat the Red Bull drivers. The Spaniard mocked Hamilton a little more, saying that with an average car, he is weak.

Russell is evidently beating his veteran teammate both times in the FP1 and FP2 in Australia. Max Verstappen secured P1 in FP1 and Fernando Alonso in FP2. Citing the same, the Spaniard points out the importance of the car while mocking Lewis Hamilton. The Briton was great when Mercedes had the best car in the turbo-hybrid era. But now, things are gradually fading away for Hamilton. Now, Alonso is the biggest threat to Red Bull. However, Milton Keynes is going to experience an internal rivalry in the following races.

Checo has expressed his desire to be the champion, and he is just a point behind his teammate after the two races of the season. It is still a long way to go as there are more than twenty Grands Prix this season still remaining. Mercedes and Ferrari can still catch up before things get too late. Otherwise, it is going to be a fierce battle between the Red Bull drivers and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso.
