One of the most shocking developments of the 2024 season was Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull. The British technical mastermind had been with the team since its early days, playing a key role in shaping its structure and guiding it to multiple world championships. Newey helped Red Bull secure consecutive titles through his relentless efforts, solidifying their dominance.

However, in recent times, the 65-year-old aerodynamic expert grew dissatisfied with the RBR management. Feeling undervalued and caught in a power struggle, Newey ultimately ended his two-decade association with the team. Since his exit, rumours have been swirling about his next move. According to recent reports, it appears that Newey has already secured a new position within F1. Moreover, Max Verstappen could also re-unite with the Aero Wizard in this new team.

BBC’s Andrew Benson recently revealed that Adrian Newey, the renowned British engineer, is set to join Aston Martin. Although the official announcement is expected on September 10, Benson disclosed the contract details, stating that Newey has signed a five-year deal worth $40 million annually. Benson also highlighted Lawrence Stroll’s significant investments to elevate Aston Martin to the top of the F1 grid. Among these investments is the development of a cutting-edge facility in Silverstone, alongside strategic hires like Andy Cowell from Mercedes and Dan Fallows from Red Bull. These moves demonstrate Stroll’s commitment to assembling a world-class team.

According to F1 content creator Cameron, Stroll might still be eyeing another key player to complete his ambitious vision for 2026—current F1 champion Max Verstappen. Cameron pointed out that Stroll’s extensive investments, including the state-of-the-art factory and a partnership with Honda as a works engine supplier, could pave the way for Verstappen to join the team, filling the final gap in Aston Martin’s quest for championship success.

Moreover, a report from Auto Sprint suggests that Aston Martin could potentially lure Max Verstappen away from Red Bull. The speculation arises from the current instability at Red Bull, with the team seeking a sense of calm. At the same time, Verstappen is focused on securing a dominant car for the 2026 season. If Red Bull’s issues continue, the reigning champion might consider switching to Aston Martin. However, it’s important to note that these are merely rumours and speculations, and only an official announcement can confirm the accuracy of these claims.

Why Mercedes Has A Better Chance Than Aston Martin To Attract Verstappen For 2026 and Beyond

According to a recent report from F1insider.com, Max Verstappen has no interest in joining Aston Martin. However, Mercedes remains a potential destination for the three-time champion. While Lawrence Stroll is focused on turning Aston Martin into a top-tier team, their season has been disappointing. On the other hand, Verstappen has made it clear that performance is the key factor influencing his future decisions.

Given this, the Brackley-based Mercedes team appears to be a more likely option for Verstappen’s next move. As the Silver Arrows continue to gain momentum this season, their future looks increasingly bright. With their expertise in powertrain technology and past dominance in the post-hybrid era, Mercedes could once again rise to the top when the 2026 regulations take effect.
