Sir Lewis Hamilton has been on a purple patch lately in the F1 season. He has waited a long time to get back to winning ways. Since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the seven-time champion has remained winless for over two years. Finally, at the 2024 British Grand Prix, the most decorated F1 racer ended his two-year winless streak. He was able to do that because Mercedes suddenly came with a new flexi front wing upgrade that changed the W15 car’s potential altogether. As a result, both the drivers of the Silver Arrows seem to perform better than before.
Now, the Mercedes drivers, along with the McLaren duo, are posing a threat to the reigning champions. Currently, the F1 teams are preparing for the second half as the drivers get a much-needed summer break. During the summer break, Lewis Hamilton decided to go on a trip to Africa. The great Briton has been vocal about re-introducing F1 GP in Africa. Clearly, he has an affection for the continent where he has gone to spend the current summer break. However, he has been part of an activity during his latest summer travels that has not gone down well with the fans.
Certain F1 Fans Accuse Lewis Hamilton Of Being Cruel To Animals
The seven-time champion has been pushing the F1 authorities to start organizing F1 Grands Prix in Africa. Since the 1993 South African Grand Prix, the continent of Africa has not hosted another F1 GP. Anyway, Lewis Hamilton has travelled to Africa for spending a couple of summer breaks already. Perhaps it is his way of boosting the chances of the return of the African Grand Prix. Back in 2022, the Mercedes superstar described his visit to Africa as “Grounding and life changing.” This year, he felt pretty similar as he posted quite a few pictures from his trip to Morocco. Hamilton wrote, “More and more at peace and feeling re-centered as the days are going by.”
The 39-year-old driver posted a series of images showing his first stop in Morroco, including beautiful desert landscapes. However, there is a picture that shows Lewis Hamilton riding a camel. It sparked backlash from the fans. As per animal rights organization, PETA, Camel riding is one of the most controversial subjects. They regard this activity as unethical and quite cruel. Moreover, some fans wrote, Hamilton was exploiting the animals. Then, another fan wrote that Lewis Hamilton, who is a well-known vegan should not support animal cruelty and riding animals. Again some fans said, “What a shame, Lewis!” and another wrote, “Save them as they ain’t machines.”
Some Fans Came In Hamilton’s Defense As Well
Lewis Hamilton did not respond to the backlash of some fans criticizing him for riding a camel. But then, there were some fans of the most decorated F1 racer who came in support of him. A fan wrote, “Come on, let the seven-time champion ride the camel. It’s an ancient mode of transport.”
Then, another fan said, “There will always be someone complaining.” Again, another Hamilton supporter added, “Let the champ have some fun.” Nowadays, celebrities must be very careful about posting any image or, video or even text on social media. They may not know when things hit back from nowhere.
