The New York Yankees has owner Hal Steinbrenner’s blessings to pursue a top-tier pitching talent for the impending MLB season, as reported by Jon Heyman of the NY Post. But to what extent Hal is involved in the negotiations remains a mystery. Nonetheless, the pursuit of a potent pitcher will likely intensify in the coming weeks.

Spring training is six weeks away. Needless to say, time is running out for the Bronx Bombers. While the Yankees are too focused on signing free agents, a trade approach cannot be ruled out. Recently, the team remained linked to Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease. However, the probable trade package remains a point of concern. Amid this, David Adler of MLB network suggested an alternative deal, which seems to be a win-win deal for both sides.

The New York Yankees, in their pursuit of bolstering the pitching staff, could explore avenues to acquire a promising arm like Dylan Cease. However, industry rumors suggest that the White Sox won’t settle for anything less than Jasson Dominguez. But at the same time, Dominguez is off the table for the Bronx Bombers as far as trade rumors are concerned. Amid the tussle, David Adler of MLB network suggested an alternative deal that would help the Yanks land Dylan Cease without sacrificing Jasson Dominguez. Miller suggested Yanks offer infielder Oswald Peraza, utility man Oswaldo Cabrera, catcher Austin Wells (Yankees’ No. 7 prospect), and right-hander Will Warren (Yankees’ No. 8 prospect) in exchange for Cease.

“But if you’re New York, is it worth it to send off a bunch of promising young players for Cease. Potentially a higher price than it took to get Juan Soto,” wrote Adler. The writer also referred to Cease as ‘Gerrit Cole lite.’ While Cease’s stride draws similarities with Cole’s, he mostly produces strikeouts with sliders. Nonetheless, acquiring Dylan Cease would undoubtedly bring a significant upside to the New York Yankees’ pitching staff. The right-handed pitcher has showcased immense potential and development. At just 28 years of age, Cease represents a young and promising talent with ample room for further growth. Joining the Yanks, a team known for refining and maximizing pitcher potential, could unlock even more of Cease’s capabilities.

Meanwhile, Jon Heyman of New York Post has learned that New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner is on board with the front office’s concept of serious addition to a rotation. Steinbrenner understands that the pitching staff has suffered a lot this off-season due to trade deals. Importantly, the starting rotation is missing a piece that needs to be addressed on a priority basis.

As far as potential targets are concerned, the Yankees have set their eyes on Jordan Montgomery, Blake Snell, and Dylan Cease. While Montgomery and Snell are free agents, Cease is contracted with the White Sox until 2026. Nonetheless, with only six weeks to go before spring training, the Yanks must speed up the negotiation process. Unnecessary delay will cause the loss of potent hurlers.
