Ahead of the crucial off-season, rumors and speculations surrounding the New York Yankees are at their peak. Many players from in and out of the league have been linked to the team so far. However, the Yankee front office has yet to green-flag any acquisition whatsoever. They are still busy figuring out the problems that led to a fallout in the 2023 season.

Regardless, an obvious off-season approach of the Yankees would be to strengthen the pitching rotation. Gerrit Cole would soon get tired of holding the fort all alone. Thus, it’s time the Bronx Bombers acquire a strong arm. While Yoshinobu Yamamoto would remain the Yanks’ top choice, a former Yankee great did not rule out a reunion with an old stud.

CC Sabathia, known for his legendary postseason performances, remains an iconic figure in the Yankees’ history. His impact on the team, both on and off the field, is a testament to his deep connection with the franchise. The former great recently sat down with Gary Phillips of The New York Daily News Sports to discuss the Yanks’ off-season approach. Phillips proposed the idea of a reunion with left-hander Jordan Montgomery. Sabathia took his time to picture the reunion and approved the idea of it. “That’d be good with me,” added Sabathia. Jordan Montgomery, a left-handed pitching prospect, began his journey in the Yankees’ organization and quickly rose through the ranks.

He made his MLB debut with the Yankees in 2017 and demonstrated promise with his pitching abilities and adaptability. However, in the 2022 season, the Yanks made the decision to trade Montgomery to the St.Louis Cardinals as part of a larger deal. While the move made sense at the time, given the team’s need for additional offensive power, it also left a void in the team’s pitching rotation. Montgomery, on the other hand, went on to thrive in the Reds. He posted a compiled ERA of 3.20 ERA this season across 32 stats with Cardinals and Rangers. Not only that, but the pitcher also appeared in the postseason. Montgomery will fit behind Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon to anchor the starting rotation. Overall, if the Bombers are looking for a cheaper alternative to Yamamoto, Jordan Montgomery remains their best pick.

Yanks Pursuit Of Yoshinobu Yamamoto Might Hit A Roadblock!

All things said and done, Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto would certainly remain the New York Yankees’ first choice when it comes to pitching reinforcements. While the Bombers have remained the preferred landing spot for a long time, an entry of an east rival could foil the team’s plans. Apparently, the Boston Red Sox have shown keen interest in the Japanese phenomena.

The Red Sox, who finished last in AL-East this year, are as desperate as the Yankees to bounce back in 2024. Thus, their desire to have a strong force like Yamamoto on the roster is understandable. However, the Bombers won’t budge down either. As per rumors, Hal Steinbrenner has $200 million in the bank to offer to the Japanese ace. That’s the price the Red Sox would have to beat to land Yamamoto.
