The Los Angeles Lakers have been an iconic franchise for premier players since time immemorial. Mainly, the greats of the game have donned the purple and gold jersey. From the time of Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson, the franchise has produced these icons of the game.
Later, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant helped the Lakers dominate the court for another decade in the 2000s. But from 2019, it has been the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They brought success to this team after a long time. Speaking of stars, how about the leader of the All-Star from the Eastern Conference, the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo? Will he join the LA side?
Is It Possible To See The Lakers Trade Anthony Davis For Giannis Antetokounmpo?
Last week, in an interview, the Milwaukee Bucks star mentioned he wants to win more championships, and for that, he is ready to join other franchises. Everybody knows how competitive Giannis Antetokounmpo can be. Hence, the idea of leaving the Bucks is not that surprising. On the other hand, as usual, the Lakers are a potential home for the Greek Freak, as he is such a big star. Recently, the co-host of Undisputed, former NFL star, Richard Sherman proposed an idea of a blockbuster trade. Sherman suggested an idea where he sees the leaders of the two All-Star teams – LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, teaming up.

When the Lakers are planning to get ready for the training camp, the new Undisputed host says, “How about trading Davis for Giannis?” If that happens, there will be shockwaves all over the NBA. Fans will be angry that the Lakers got yet another star. But the Bucks will be happy that they got a serious player back in exchange for a serious player. However, these are all speculations. Albeit, if the Bucks don’t do enough to appease their star, the Lakers will be the next best option for Giannis Antetokounmpo. But having Anthony Davis in the centerpiece will only make sense in terms of a blockbuster trade.
The LA Side Needs James-Davis Duo At Their Best To Win The Next Season
This James-Davis duo helped the LA side win their 17th title in 2020. The Lakers would surely hope to get to the coveted 18th title before their eternal rivals, the Boston Celtics, do. Both stand on 17 titles. In 2022-23, Anthony Davis brilliantly led the side in the absence of LeBron James for a month to help the franchise make the postseason. But the Los Angeles Lakers will need their talismanic leader, LeBron James, to be at his very best. However, the King is 38 and will be 39 when the next mid-season arrives.
Hence, King James is at the twilight of his career. The Lakers can’t expect his service for many years in the future. That’s why they extended AD’s contract for another three more years. Moreover, the front office has faith in the eight-time All-Star to lead the side to more titles in the post-James era. If James retires soon, then the Lakers will have only Anthony Davis as their star. But the franchise that always had star players traditionally will be lacking stars in the King’s absence.
