Before the 2024 MLB season went on floors, the New York Yankees were rated as a dangerous unit on paper. However, to translate that power on to the field was never easy given how the team was coming from a playoff elimination in the previous season.

However, the New York Yankees proved to be equally strong on the ground as well as they not only clinched a playoff berth but also secured AL-East division. Ahead of the highly-anticipated playoffs, the Bronx Bombers are tipped to be a premium contenders for World Series with a key factor elevating their odds.

The New York Yankees were crowned AL East division champions in dominant fashion on Thursday night, defeating the Baltimore Orioles in their season finale to secure their second division title in the last three years. Despite a tumultuous season, Chris McMonigle of WFAN emphasized the importance of keeping perspective as the Yanks locked up an ALDS berth with a home-field advantage. He acknowledged that New York is on the verge of clinching the top seed in the American League. While the radio host admits the Yanks have their flaws, he points out that every team in the American League has weaknesses this year. The key, he believes, is that the Bombers are peaking at the right time and are in their best position to win.

According to the host, the New York Yankees are heading into the postseason with one of the healthiest and most complete rosters they’ve had in years, which positions them strongly to compete for a title. One of the key reasons for optimism is the recovery and resurgence of star players like Gerrit Cole, who has returned to his ace form, and Carlos Rodon, who has delivered consistently throughout the season. Luke Weaver has thrived since becoming the closer, while Tommy Kahnle, Ian Hamilton, and Clay Holmes have all been key contributors, solidifying the back end of the pitching staff. Moreover, the Yanks’ lineup, led by Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, has remained relatively injury-free heading into October, allowing for consistent offensive production. Overall, the combination of health, depth, and talent could be the decisive factor that propels the Bombers toward their first World Series title in over a decade.

New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge overcame a 16-game home run drought with a five-game home run streak as his season tally reached 58 on Thursday. However, with the 62-home run record on the line, the Yanks rested Judge for the series opener against Pirates on Friday, citing workload management.

The team had a long night of celebrations following AL-East division victory and hence majority of senior players opted out of the Friday contest. “He’s not playing for any of that,” Boone said of Judge’s 60-home run chase. The New York Yankees manager added that Aaron Judge is focused on playoffs and is using the rest to rejuvenate himself.
