The New York Yankees are almost on the verge of rebuilding the team from scratch. Initially, the NY side had a lot of depth in their bullpen. However, at present, the Yankees are struggling with a worsening pitching situation. Hence, the Bronx Bombers have to stay in the market as long as they stabilize their bullpen a little bit. Moreover, the Pinstripes might also need to look for a utility player in the market.

The popular opinion is to bring back Gio Urshela. On the other hand, the 27-time champions can also use the former top prospect for shortstop, Oswald Peraza, as their new utility player. They can transition the 23-year-old into a utility infielder. On the other hand, the NY side can use Peraza as a trade prospect before the spring training to fill the rotation hole.

How Can The Yankees Use Oswald Peraza?

Last season, Oswald Peraza lost the battle to get the shortstop role to Anthony Volpe, the rookie. Anyhow, Peraza has a lot to prove, especially that he can hit pitching in the big league after he did pretty well in the minor league. Last season, Oswald Peraza struggled at plate. On top of that, he has not been hitting well in the offseason at the Venezuelan Winter League. In 21 games, he had an average of .216. Hence, Scout wonders if the Yankees will trade Peraza or keep him because his trade value is at the lowest level at present. A couple of years ago, he was the top prospect of the NY Yankees.

Everybody thought the Bronx Bombers would make him their shortstop. Initially, most people thought that Anthony Volpe would move to the second base. And that would allow them to play for the Bronx Bombers for another ten years. But after the Yankees chose Volpe as their shortstop, nobody knows what they would make of Oswald Peraza. The problem with Peraza is that his swing went backward as he joined the major league. It was better in the minor league.

How The Bronx Solved The Issue Of Lack Of Star Outfielders This Offseason?

Juan Soto Source: Sportsnet

The 2023 season was awful. The team did not make the postseason and finished with a terrible 82-80 record. It was probably their worst season in the last 30 years. On top of that, the outfield was getting weaker every season, as they had only one superstar as their captain. Hence, the 27-time champions were looking to bring in another lefty superstar outfielder. But it would not have been any easy deal that would get them what they wanted.

Anyway, the Yankees were able to land Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres. Just when the NY side needed a lefty superstar outfielder, the SD Padres had to slash their payroll and, hence, were willing to part ways with the Dominican superstar. On top of that, the NY side received Trent Grisham in their deal with the Padres. Prior to that deal, the Yankees received Alex Verdugo from their arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox. However, to acquire these top outfielders, the Yankees had to sacrifice a lot of pitchers and catchers.
