Klay Thompson has been an integral part of the Golden State Warriors since the 2011 season. It has been a too-long journey with the same team for the shooting guard. Moreover, the same goes with his splash brother Stephen Curry. The three-point King has been part of the Dubs franchise for an even longer period. In fact, two years before Klay joined the club, Curry came in. One year after the Dubs added Thompson to their roster, they landed Draymond Green. That’s how the epic trio of the Dubs came into existence. Then, a few years later, Steve Kerr became the head coach of the GSW. And the rest is history.

Moreover, the tripod was instrumental in making the Dubs a modern-day dynasty. They went on to win four NBA Championships in a span of eight years. After all, they have been through, it seems weird or even impossible to imagine that the Dub’s trio can drift apart. In fact, it was Steph Curry who said after the Warriors lost to the Sacramento Kings in the play-in game, “I can’t imagine playing without those two guys.” Clearly, he meant Klay and Dray. Recently, the veteran shooting guard gave a hint about leaving the Warriors.

In the 2023-2024 season, both Draymond Green and Klay Thompson struggled with consistency, shooting form, and overall performance. Moreover, it became too hard for Steph Curry to carry the team throughout the season alone. Eventually, the team failed to make the playoffs. They made the postseason but lost in the play-in game. Klay had a scoreless outing against the Sacramento Kings in the game that mattered the most. Now, in the offseason, he will be an unrestricted free agent. On the other hand, Green and Curry are still under contract with the Warriors. Lately, there has been a massive development on the Klay Thompson free agency rumor front.

The shooting guard unfollowed the Warriors and deleted a lot of Dubs-related posts. However, professional athletes quite often unfollow a team amid contract negotiations. Hence, it may not be a very big deal. But there have been rumors that Thompson was not happy with the Dub’s approach at his free agency. Anthony Slater of The Athletics reported that the Warriors were not prioritizing Klay Thompson’s contract extension. Perhaps the shooting guard might plan to switch to somewhere else, ending his 13-year-long collaboration with the Warriors.

End Of An Era For The Warriors?

Lately, Thompson unfollowed the Warriors on Instagram and deleted several posts related to the team dating back to 2022. As of Friday afternoon, the splash brother of Steph Curry was still following Santa Cruz Warriors which is the G-League affiliate of the Dubs. He was still following the community foundation of the Warriors. Thompson didn’t delete his post where he honors the late Dubs coach Dejan Milojevic. Aside from the post honoring the late coach, his Instagram account shows the last Warriors post he kept was from April 2022.

That last post where he’s wearing the Warriors gear might have been a sponsored post with Tissot. Perhaps as per contract, Thompson had obligations not to delete the post. This four-time champion with the Warriors is a future Hall of Famer. But in recent years, his performance has declined massively due to age and injuries. Now, what will the GSW organization do about Klay? Will they let him go? The Philadelphia 76ers or the Orlando Magic might be happy to welcome the shooting guard.
