Djokovic Trains On Monaco Clay-Court Ahead Of His Comeback At Monte-Carlo!

Djokovic

Novak Djokovic is all set to make a comeback at the Monte Carlo Masters this week. World No. 1 Djokovic has landed in Monaco recently to start the clay season. On Sunday, the Serbian posted a video on his Twitter account where he was spotted practicing on the clay court in Monaco.

Novak has only played one tournament in 2022. He lost in the quarter-finals against Jiri Vesley at the ATP Dubai Duty-Free Championship back in February. Djokovic was deported from Australia following his vaccination status on the eve of the Australian Open. Rafael Nadal lifted his 21st Grand Slam in the absence of Djokovic in Melbourne. The 20-time Grand Slam champion could not play the Indian Wells and the Miami Masters due to the prohibition of unvaccinated players in the US. Finally, Novak is set to make a comeback at the Monte Carlo. Luckily for Novak, the French government allowed unvaccinated players to participate in the Masters tournament.

Djokovic Favorite To Win Monte Carlo Masters 2022:

Novak uploaded from his practice session in Monaco, giving an insight into his training. Nole looks in good touch, and he might be the favorite to win the Monte Carlo.

The 33-year-old Serbian will be the only one among the Big Three to participate in the tournament. Rafael Nadal is out for 4-6 weeks due to a rib stress fracture, while Federer has been out for more than eight months and will probably return by the end of summer. Moreover, the former World No.1 Daniil Medvedev will not appear at the Monte Carlo due to a hernia procedure. The Russian tennis star took the reigns from Djokovic for three weeks last month. However, Novak regained the top spot after Medvedev lost the quarter-finals at the Indian Wells Masters.

Hence, Nole might have the best opportunity at the Monte Carlo to lift his first title of the year. As per the adjusted ranking systems, players will carry around 50% of the points from pandemic-affected tournaments. Nadal gathered 8,240 ranking points from winning the French Open in 2021, making it to the finals in Rome, and winning the Madrid master in 2019. So as per the system, Novak Djokovic will be entering the claycourt season with 3,530 points under his belt. Winning the Monte Carlo will be a great start for Novak in the preparations for the Roland Garros. The Serbian will enter the Roland Garros in May as the defending champion.
