The New York Yankees lost the final game of the series against the Baltimore Orioles by a humiliating margin of 1-14, courtesy of awful outings from Luis Severino and Albert Abreu. The duo combined gave away 13 runs in just four innings, which knocked out the home team just halfway to the game. Eventually, the Yanks had to settle the series for a split despite winning the first two games.

Luis Severino recorded yet another awful outing. In mere 2.2 innings pitched, he has away 10 hits, seven runs, and one stolen base while striking out three Orioles batters. Naturally, the entire blame for the loss fell on his shoulders as the crowd made their agitation evident with loud boos. If the latest outing is not enough to prompt the Yankees to pull the plug on Severino, these below-mentioned stats will surely do the job.

Yankees pitcher Luis Severino missed a major chuck of the ongoing 2023 MLB season due to a lat strain. After getting revoked from the injury list, he recorded two stellar starts. However, things went downhill shortly after. His sliders, fastballs, and sinkers were all over the place as Severino struggled with velocity as well. Before he even knew it, his ERA was skyrocketing. Meanwhile, after the recent blowout start vs. the Orioles, MLB insider Bryan Hoch has brought concerning statistics to people’s attention, which suggests how awful this season has been for Luis.

As per Bryan Hoch, “Luis Severino has allowed 40 runs in 42.2 innings this season (9 starts). Last year he gave up 37 runs in 102 innings (19 starts).” Not only that, in the past seven starts, his ERA is as high as 11.72 in over 25 innings pitched while allowing 48 hits and 33 earned runs. This is as bad as it can get for a pitcher. It’s a total nightmare. It’s also important to note that Severino is in the final year of his four-year $40 million contract extension with the Yankees. The contract does contain a club option for a fifth season. But with the current form, the Yanks would not like to be anywhere near Severino after the season concludes. Overall, the ship is sinking for the Yankee pitcher, and he needs to take back the steering control as soon as possible.

Yankees Manager Reacts To Luis Severino’s Horrendous Show Vs. Orioles

The most upset man in the Yankee clubhouse right now is the team manager, Aaron Boone. He had to face the burnt of the fans as he heard loud boos from the crowd on Wednesday while pulling out Luis Severino after a horrific start that lasted only three innings. Addressing Severino’s struggle, the skipper said that he was physically fine. The only problem is with the execution. The pitches are not landing properly, which is allowing the batter to take him head-on with ease.

Luis Severino also spoke on his awful show and said that he had not been himself on the mound this season. He does not know how to deal with this mentally. All the pitcher can do here is try to get better somehow. Severino said that he enters the field with utmost confidence, but then, after three or four innings, he finds himself completely out of the game. He claimed that batters are hitting his pitches everywhere. Hence, he has been unable to figure out a delivery that will work best.
