A few weeks ago, \’Auto Motor und Sport\’ magazine broke the news of Red Bull exceeding the budget cap in th 2021. This news caused a stir in the entire Formula One circuit. A few days ago, the Formula One governing body confirmed the alleged breach by Red Bull. As a result, the FIA imposed a $7 million fine on the German manufacturer. Meanwhile, now, the team principal, Christian Horner, has made some demands from the F1 governing body.
What Request Christian Horner Has Made From The FIA?
It was discovered that Red Bull exceeded the budget cap for 2021 by 1.6 percent. Even if the breach was considerably smaller than first thought, it was still modest, and it was appropriately punished. Along with receiving a $7 million punishment that must be paid by the end of November, the Milton Keynes team had their time allotted for CFD and wind tunnel testing reduced by 10%.
After the Red Bull team manager promised to \”take the catastrophe on the chin,\” Christian Horner, the team principal, has given the FIA advice on how to spend the money from their cost cap punishment. Many of their competitors viewed a fine and a decrease in wind tunnel time for the next year as mild. But Horner is adamant that it will hurt them severely in 2023. In order to boost other racing series, Horner asked that the money should be used to support them.
According to Horner, Red Bull will receive more money from Liberty Media this year than the actual cap allows. As a result, the cost cap needs to be examined since the prize money for the top three or four teams exceeds the cap. Furthermore, Horner has pointed out that the budget cap regulations are flawed. The team leader had previously spoken about how his group might have erred in their interpretation of the intricate set of guidelines.
Horner Has A Message For His Rivals!
Following the F1 cost cap violation, Christian Horner thinks that even setting their wind tunnel on fire could not be enough of a punishment for their competitors. In 2023, he expects it will be costly to reduce their wind tunnel time due to a modest cost cap breach.
The team consistently maintained that their compromise did not help them advance their goal. But they have paid a steep price for the accounting mistakes. Horner thinks that his competitors pushed for a heavier punishment and jumped to conclusions too quickly. However, even the heaviest punishment might not be enough to appease Red Bull\’s competitors. The FIA had other possibilities for sporting sanctions. But Horner believes the most severe punishment has been awarded to them.
