Aaron Boone is back as the New York Yankees manager for the 2025 MLB season after the front office exercised his club option last week. His first act of business will be to fly to California to meet Juan Soto with owner Hal Steinbrenner and pitch an extension offer to him.

Besides Juan Soto, the New York Yankees manager also has other roster issues to address. In his latest interview with the media, Aaron Boone listed two special players who he expects to be a major part of the roster in the upcoming season. Interestingly, both players were rookies with minimal major league experience.

Jasson Dominguez Likely To Transition Into Full-Time Role

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is setting high expectations for two of the organization’s most promising prospects, Jasson Dominguez and Caleb Durbin, as they look ahead to the 2025 season. Despite the Yanks’ expected big moves in free agency, Boone believes these young talents could play pivotal roles next season. Jasson Dominguez, has had his career momentum slightly stalled due to Tommy John surgery in 2024. Yet, Boone has voiced strong confidence in Dominguez’s future, citing both his skills and his mental approach to the game. “I continue to be super excited about Jasson’s future. I’m in that camp of people who think he’s going to be a great big-league player. I love his talent,” he said.

Equally intriguing to Aaron Boone and the Yankees organization is Caleb Durbin, a versatile infielder acquired in a trade with the Atlanta Braves in 2022. Durbin’s development has continued to impress, especially after a strong showing in the Arizona Fall League, where he posted a .296 average with four home runs and 23 stolen bases in just 21 games. Boone describes Durbin as a “hard-nosed, tough player” with excellent baserunning and contact-hitting abilities, adding, “I think he’s a stud.” Notably, the Yankees appear to be preparing Durbin for a significant role in 2025, particularly given that longtime second baseman Gleyber Torres entered free agency last week. With his competitive edge and versatility, Durbin may well be poised to step up in the infield. Ultimately, these promising players will add to the Yankees’ flexibility as they enter the offseason with hopes of re-signing star Juan Soto and potentially making additional acquisitions.

The New York Yankees have chosen to keep Aaron Boone on as manager for the 2025 season, exercising his club option and extending his tenure to an eighth year. During his recent media sessions, Boone also addressed the possibility of an extension, although he noted that no discussions have taken place with the front office.

“The reality is there’s tons of people going to work every single day with that existence, where it’s year-to-year. We were able to put together a strong season and get to the World Series,” he said. Boone’s confidence and connection with the Yankees and players were clear, as he highlighted his excitement to return and lead the team again.
