The New York Yankees are looking to change a lot in their organization. This idea came after they failed to make the postseason this year. Even in the last few seasons, the NY side was not doing very well. They may have made the postseason but could not go the distance to make the World Series. That’s what they want to do next season. Anyway, they are the most successful team in the league to get there and win the whole thing. Moreover, to kickstart their offseason, the Yankees released six players earlier. There are many more in the 40-member roster who the 27-time champions can get rid of at present.

But it was a good start to get rid of six players at one go. With more cap space, the Yankees can afford players they really want, like Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres and Yoshinobu Yamamoto from the Orix Buffaloes. Lately, ESPN host Paul Hembekides mentioned the NY side should trade the recent AL Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole. Moreover, Paul believes trading Cole can solve the Yankees’ problem of being in a precarious and undesirable position.

Is It A Good Idea To Trade Gerrit Cole?

On Thursday, while co-hosting “Greeny” on ESPN Radio with Mike Greenberg, Paul presented the idea of dealing Cole this offseason. He outlined everything it could yield. On X, Paul mentioned Gerrit Cole is the guy to trade for the Yankees. The ESPN host believes it can help the NY side to restock their system and help them get more liquid. Moreover, Cole is 33 at present. He generally stayed healthy all his career. Moreover, since 2017, he has played at least 30 games every season, except the 2020 shortened season due to COVID-19.

On top of that, the Yankees signed a nine-year deal worth $324 million with Cole in December 2019. But Gerrit Cole can opt out of this contract at the end of the next season. In terms of his pitching career for the Yankees, the 2023 season has been his best. He posted a 15-4 record when he started over 33 games. Moreover, Cole led the American League in ERA with 2.63 over 209 innings. Adding to that, Cole has 0.98 WHIP along with 222 strikeouts. In baseball, it is the fifth-most record. No wonder Cole won his first-ever AL Cy Young Award this year.

When Can The Yankees Win The World Series Again?

It doesn’t look like happening anytime soon for the NY side. Moreover, it has been a long time since they have been to the World Series. The last time the Yankees won in 2009 was the last time they made it to the World Series. It has been a drought of 14 years. But things are getting worse instead of improving.

They failed to make the postseason for the first time since 2016. Anyhow, the Yankees are eager to bring in a lot of changes this offseason. Aaron Judge and Hal Steinbrenner are not losing hope so soon. The captain and the owner mentioned earlier in the offseason that they are planning to make significant changes.
