The New York Yankees would hope to see the return of their first baseman, Anthony Rizzo, soon. Although the veteran slugger has not been performing at his finest this season, the NY side will take any help they can get. This season, they have a good mix of young, talented players and veteran stars. But most importantly, the combination of Juan Soto and Aaron Judge has been working really well so far. Adding to that, the Bronx Bombers would like to see the former MVP, Giancarlo Stanton, get back to his groove. Like Anthony Rizzo, Stanton, too, had been on the Injured List this year for a long time. Now, the question that the team is wondering is when Rizzo can return to the lineup, too.

Since mid-June, the veteran first baseman has been out due to a forearm fracture. The last time Rizzo played a game in the big league was against the Boston Red Sox. Since then, the Bronx Bombers have managed well as at present, they are at the top of the American League East division. In fact, the Yankees have the best record in the AL at the moment. However, as of now, the Los Angeles Dodgers (81-54) have the best record in the ongoing season. Hence, Anthony Rizzo’s return can help the Pinstripes a lot.

Recently, in an interview with New York Post Sports, via Dexter Henry, Dr. Lauren Borowski gave an update on the recovery progress of the Yankees first baseman. When Henry asked the NYU Langone doctor about a typical timeline for a forearm fracture that Rizzo had to deal with, she said, “It’s about 6-8 weeks, usually.” That means Rizzo must be on his way to complete his recovery soon. Moreover, Dr. Borowski mentioned that as long as Rizzo’s other health conditions, including metabolic conditions, are good for him and are all set, he should be good to go in 6-8 weeks. On top of that, she said that most likely, the Yankees first baseman suffered a non-displaced fracture.

It means the ends of the fractured pieces were pretty close to each other. But the reason why Rizzo did not have to undergo surgery is because of certain considerations. Dr. Borowski added that if the fractured pieces were further apart, or the injury made them angulated to a certain degree and if it could affect the ulna, then Rizzo had to undergo surgery. Moreover, she noted that they take X-rays every couple of weeks for checking on the progress. Then, they add more intensity to the workouts, weight training, and high impact, like he would feel when he hits a baseball off the bat.

Like The First Baseman, Jasson Dominguez Also Nears Return

On Sunday, Jasson Dominguez can make a strong case for his September call-ups. The Martian has been on a tear in Triple-A. In the last 13 games, the 21-year-old outfielder was hitting .370, six RBIs, two doubles, and two homers. He posted a .804 OPS over 34 Triple-A games in 2024. But Aaron Boone won’t commit about calling Jasson just yet. On September 1, rosters can expand from 26 to 28.

On Friday, in the pre-game interview, the manager mentioned, “Dominguez is certainly a name in consideration.” But he also added that they have not made any decision yet so he doesn’t know if Jasson will return soon. Later, Boone said ahead of the St. Louis Cardinal’s game, “We’ll see.” Like Anthony Rizzo, The Martian has also been very injury-prone since last year.
