The New York Yankees’ winning streak unfortunately ended on Friday as they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against LA Dodgers. Regardless, the Bronx Bombers’ 45-20 win-loss record is still tied with the Philadelphia Phillies as the best in the whole of major league.

That being said, with the trade deadline approaching, the New York Yankees have multiple options to bolster their roster by addressing respective area’s needs. In a latest rumor, the billion dollar franchise was linked to Miami Marlins young starter in what could be a low-risk, low-pay trade deal which could end up extending Yanks pitching depth.

The New York Yankees starting rotation has been the best in the league this year, that too, with the absence of ace Gerrit Cole. Rookies like Luis Gil have stepped up to tackle major league pressure, whereas Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes bounced back from an abysmal season in 2023. However, as the season progresses, the risk of injuries will increase, and hence, the Yanks must take proactive measures to bolster the pitching depth beforehand. Recently, FanSided’s Robert Murray linked the Yanks to Miami Marlin’s young starter Jesus Luzardo as he expects the Yanks, Orioles, and Brewers to go after him at the trade deadline. Jesus Luzardo, 26, has already shown glimpses of being a top-tier pitcher in the big leagues.

His 2023 season with the Marlins was particularly impressive, where he posted a 3.58 ERA with 208 strikeouts over 32 starts. However, this year hasn’t been kind to Jesus. He has a 5.30 ERA across 10 starts with an underwhelming 2-5 win-loss record. Regardless, Jesus Luzardo could prove to be a great addition to the New York Yankees. His combination of a high-90s fastball, a devastating slider, and a changeup has made him one of the most exciting young pitchers in the game. His ability to dominate hitters from both sides of the plate makes him a valuable asset for any team. Adding a left-hander of Luzardo’s caliber would not only balance the rotation but also give the Yankees a potent weapon against tough lineups in the American League. While Luzardo’s talent is undeniable, there are risks involved. Hence, the Yanks must cleverly negotiate terms to secure a win-win deal.

Gerrit Cole’s Schedule For Second Rehab Start Confirmed

Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post

Reigning AL CY Young pitcher Gerrit Cole is on the cusp of his much-anticipated return from IL as he commenced his rehab assignment last week with the Double-A Somerset Patriots. Cole, recovering from an elbow nerve inflammation injury, pitched his 3.1 scoreless innings in his first rehab start last week and reported no setback whatsoever.

And considering his positive feedback, the New York Yankees have now schedule his second rehab start for Sunday with Double-A Somerset Patriots. It’s still unclear as to how much more starts Cole will need to endure to be able to return to the Yankees rotation. However, positive development in the clubhouse suggests that the return is much closer than it seems.
