New York Yankees resumed the second half of the 2023 MLB season on Friday against the Colorado Rockies. Currently, out of playoff contention, the Bronx Bombers were desperate yet hopeful for a good start after the break. Moreover, the team had a fresh face in the clubhouse, Sean Casey, the team’s newly appointed hitting coach.

Right after the All-Star break kicked off last week, the Yankees made a mega shuffle in the coaching staff. Dillon Lawson was sacked from the role of the hitting coach with immediate effect. Sean Casey, a former MLB player, and MLB broadcaster, replaced him. Meanwhile, Casey got to experience Yank’s insane hitting abilities on his very first day at the office, and his reaction to it was pure gold.

During the series opener against the Colorado Rockies, Yankees Giancarlo Stanton, known for his prodigious power and ability to send baseballs into orbit, stepped up to the plate. The powerful hitter wasted no time in getting back to business. In the very first inning, he launched a four-seam fastball off Rockies starter Austin Gomber straight over the left field to record a 445 feet home run. The 10th-season homer from Stanton earned the Yanks an early lead which they blew in the very next inning. Nevertheless, Stanton’s hit was applauded by fans and also the team’s newly appointed hitting coach.

Sean Casey made his debut as the Yankees hitting coach on Friday and looked amazed on his very first day. Giancarlo Stanton’s towering hit made him rise from his seat in applause. As the slugger rounded his bases to complete his homer, Casey raised his fist up in the air, followed by five high fives with the other members of the team. Sean Casey’s epic reaction to Giancarlo Stanton’s mammoth home run was a mixture of amazement and excitement. The sheer force behind Stanton’s swing left Casey nodding his head in admiration, appreciating the pure display of strength and skill. However, the Bombers could not capitalize on the batter’s homer as they ended up losing 7-2 to go one down in the three-game series.

A Change In Leadership Was Not Enough To Transform Yankees Fortune!

Sean Casey joined the Yankees coaching staff with a lot of hope and excitement. Prior to his first game, the coach made a lot of promises in the media and even shared a couple of ideas to end the team’s offensive struggles. However, on Friday, the picture looked completely different. The team’s struggling veterans, barring Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres, failed to score. The visitors could pile up only two runs in response to the Rockies’ seven scoring hits.

Sean Casey’s first day at the office was a bit of a mixed bag. The Yankees plunged further down in the East division. All things considered, an offensive resurgence is a must in the team’s pursuit of a playoff berth. Hence, reviving this dead offense would be an uphill task for Casey, who has no coaching experience whatsoever. Only time will tell if the Yanks’ front office’s gamble to appoint Aaron Boone’s ex-teammate as hitting coach is a hit or a miss.
