The New York Yankees had an awful season last year. They wanted to make amends this offseason. The organization promised their fans that they would make significant changes this offseason. And that’s what they have been able to accomplish this winter. Moreover, the NY side really needed to bolster their outfield. It was really weak. And they had to do something about their offense. It was not helping their aim to win the World Series. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers even failed to make the postseason last year. They finished with an awful 82-80 record. On top of that, they had the second-worst batting average last year.

It was one of the worst seasons in the franchise’s history. Hence, to make significant changes, Brian Cashman and the company were looking for a couple of lefty superstar outfielders. There were a few options, but the number one choice was Juan Soto. And that’s what the Yankees tried their best to seal. After managing to land the Dominican superstar, the Yankees had a great boost in their outfield. Later, they brought in a few more hitters and pitchers. However, the offseason might not be yet over for the NY side. Brian Cashman might actually like to land the free agent Cody Bellinger, after all.

Will Yankees Finally Sign Cody Bellinger?

When the 27-time champions were looking for a couple of outfielders in the market, the top two choices were Juan Soto and Cody Bellinger. They needed two lefty sluggers because the Yankees stadium suits the southpaws the best. Albeit, Bellinger was the best available lefty slugger in free agency, the Yankees went for a tougher deal to sign Juan Soto for a year. After all the signings so far, the Yankees payroll is well beyond $300 million. But there’s still a chance for Cody to don the same jersey Bellinger Sr. did in his time. Recently, Mark Feinsand of MLB Network, mentioned an executive who predicted the San Francisco Giants and Blake Snell match, also pegged Cody Bellinger might sign with the Yankees.

In 2024, Bellinger can play at first base, DH, and center field, the executive told Feinsand. It is a possibility because there have not been many strong suitors for Cody Bellinger. On top of that, the Yankees did not have any major signing from Free agency other than Marcus Stroman. However, the Chicago Cubs are favorites to land the lefty slugger. Despite the two parties are adamant in their valuations, there has been a stalemate between them. Generally, these situations give the competitors a chance to usurp the favorite, and Brian Cashman can do just that.

The Bronx Bombers Have A Strong Outfield Ready For 2024 Already

Juan Soto signed with the Yankees for a one-year deal before he heads to his free agency at the end of the 2024 season. There’s a good chance that the NY side won’t be able to land the Dominican superstar for a multi-year deal. However, for 2024, the best hitter in baseball will don the Pinstripes uniform.

But bringing Cody Bellinger still benefit the Yankees. It is important that the Bronx Bombers sign with Bellinger for a long-term deal. In case, the Yankees decline the club option of Anthony Rizzo next year. However, the Chicago Cubs can still try to land the lefty hitter.
