The New York Yankees have been on a roll since the start of the 2024 season. Who knew they would be this good without their ace pitcher, Gerrit Cole? Clearly, the NY side has a strong offense with Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. That dynamic duo has been brilliant this season. They have created immense pressure on the opponent pitchers. There is a good reason why the Bronx Bombers look like the best team in the American League so far. Currently, they have an incredible record of 39-19. It is really good, considering the fact that the Yankees are playing without the reigning AL Cy Young winner.

During the spring training, Gerrit Cole hurt his right elbow. Due to a nerve inflammation in his right elbow, Cole has been on the 60-day Injured List. It was a big blow to the Bronx Bombers ahead of the regular season this year because, in 2023, Cole was the best performer for the team. Nevertheless, the starting pitchers, from Luis Gil to Marcus Stroman, have been too good this season. Moreover, the Yankees hurlers have made history this season.

Yankees Rotation Has Done Something That Has Not Happened In More Than A Century

Since 1893, as per MLB.com, there has been no team in Major League Baseball who were able to achieve what the current Yankees rotation was able to do. Clearly, the starting pitchers of the NY side have been on a whole other level this season. They took it on their chin that they were playing without the ace pitcher Gerrit Cole. Hence, they needed to do something very special to help the Bronx Bombers enjoy the kind of success they have in the ongoing season. What they have done so far is more than special, it has been historic. The Starting pitchers have allowed two or even fewer runs over the last 16 starts in a row of at least five innings.

Lately, the Dominican pitcher Luis Gil continued that streak against the Los Angeles Angels. The Yankees won 2-1 against the Angels on Wednesday night. Gil replaced Cole this year in the regular season. He has done a terrific job so far. According to MLB.com, starting pitcher Nestor Cortes mentioned, “We’ve done a good job, I think, to have a little competition amongst ourselves.” With this healthy competition, the Yankees starters look forward to pitching better than the one on the night before and “Having a better line.” It has been since May 12 that the starting pitchers in the Bronx have enjoyed a 12-2 record. They have a sterling 1.00 ERA over 99 innings and 11 earned runs.

Aaron Boone Couldn’t Have Been Prouder Of The Boys

The Yankees manager said as per MLB.com that it has been an amazing run. Boone credited the starting rotation to set the tone for the team all year long. Moreover, he praised the hurlers for continuing this stretch. The skipper said, “It has been a special run by those guys.”

As per Elias Sports Bureau, three teams in history have been able to do what the Yankees starters did this year for 14 consecutive starts. And they are the 1907 Philadelphia Phillies, the 1968 Pittsburgh Pirates, and the 2022 New York Mets. Marcus Stroman, said as per MLB.com, “All our starters have been incredible, I think.” He added that the starters expect each other to achieve greatness on the mound.
