Lewis Hamilton, ahead of his historic move to Ferrari, wants to finish his final dance with Mercedes on a high. At the age of 39, he is still hungry to win races and fight for podiums and pole positions. However, Mercedes’ struggles with the car have been the biggest roadblock in Hamilton’s aspirations.

The W15, built with a completely different concept than its predecessors, has been horrible to drive as both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have struggled to push the machinery into the points zone. Amid tensions, the seven time world champion cancelled his Chinese GP formal press conference at the last minute.

Chinese Grand Prix is making a return after five long years, and teams have assembled at the Shanghai International Circuit for the extended sprint race weekend. That being said, the official media day for the event was scheduled for Thursday afternoon. However, Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell dropped off the session at the last minute, citing prior commitments. FIA Girly reported that Hamilton and Russell have decided to skip the official press meet and will now instead speak with the media professionals at the team’s hospitality box later in the evening. Notably, this isn’t the first time the British driving duo has missed the media event. Hamilton and Russell also spoke privately with the journalists from the hospitality box during the Australian Grand Prix held earlier this year.

That being said after the Mercedes drivers finally turned up for the media conference, Lewis Hamilton urged fans to keep their expectations in check for the upcoming race weekend. He confirmed that the car would be the same as the one with no upgrade package on the cards. “Nothing’s changed with our car, so it’s gonna be the same car this weekend,” said Hamilton. However, the team does have a better understanding of the machinery, which will indeed help with a better setup this weekend. But overall, with the addition of the sprint race, Mercedes have zero room for error to get their setup right. Notably, wild experiments with setups have cost Hamilton crucial points this year. And perhaps it’s time for the Silver Arrows to stick with a plan and improvise on the same as the season progresses.

At 39 years of age, seven time F1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton signed a fresh contract with Ferrari for the 2025 season, thus confirming his stay in the sport into his 40s. However, the accomplished driver does not believe age does justice to his passion and hunger for the sport. While he initially didn’t plan to last this long, life took him for a crazy trip.

“I don’t feel like I’m nearing 40 years old, I feel young still. I generally feel great,” said Lewis Hamilton. Besides Lewis Hamilton, a 42 year old Fernando Alonso also signed a two-year extension contract with Aston Martin, thus making him the oldest driver on the grid.
