The New York Yankees landed Trent Grisham with the same deal that got them Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres. It was the turning point in the offseason for the Bronx Bombers because they needed to reinforce their outfield and offense. Last year, more than half of the NY side’s squad saw their name on the Injured List at least once. Dealing with so many injuries made things difficult for the Pinstripes. Albeit, they had firepower in the batting order, they suffered too many injuries. Hence, the front office made sure they brought in enough resources for the outfield.

In order to do that, the Yankees sacrificed a lot of their pitching resources. But they finally managed to land Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham to the 40-man roster. Currently, the NY side looks pretty solid in their offense, and the outfield is full of superstars. From the left field to the right field, there are Alex Verdugo, Aaron Judge, and Juan Soto. Then, as the fourth outfielder of the New York Yankees, there is Trent Grisham. No wonder why the NY side had the most improved outfield in the offseason in terms of WAR.

Prior to joining the Yankees, Trent Grisham had more than 500 plate appearances in every season for the last three years. On Monday, the new outfielder of the Bronx Bombers had his second start in three days. So far, the NY side has played 17 games. But Grisham got in the lineup of the Pinstripes only for the fourth time. Currently, the former San Diego Padres outfielder is playing the role of the fourth outfielder in New York. Hence, Grisham is going through a phase where he is trying to adjust to certain change of pace. However, Aaron Boone claimed that over the course of the year, Grisham might have to play a big role. The Yankees manager knows that Trent Grisham is that kind of player who is there in the lineup everyday.

But that has just not been the case since he came to New York. Anyhow, Boone said Grisham will have to make the most out of the opportunity he gets. Later, the skipper said prior to the game at the Rogers Center that Grisham has been excellent from work and attitude’s standpoint so far. Moreover, Boone said the expectation is that he can thrive in that role despite the fact that he never did that before. On top of that, the manager told the New York Post that the new outfielder can be very valuable in the smaller role. Moreover, that role can change inevitably at any moment.

It Hasn’t Been A Great Start To The 2024 Season For Grisham

The former SD Padres outfielder, on Monday, went 0 for 2 with a walk as the Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1. He tried to steal second base with one out in the fifth inning when the Blue Jays threw him out. Anthony Volpe was waiting at the plate. So far, on the season, Grisham is 0 for 10 with a couple of walks.

Moreover, he had four strikeouts in the 2024 season. Now, the reason why Grisham started on Monday is because Aaron Boone wanted the Yankees captain a day at DH as he played the three-game series on the turf. Giancarlo Stanton moved to the bench on Monday. On the other hand, the left-handed Trent had to face the righty Chris Basitt.
