The New York Yankees landed Juan Soto this offseason to an utter jubilation of the fans. And why not? First of all, the Dominican superstar is the best hitter in baseball. More importantly, the NY side had a terrible 2023 season. They finished with an awful 82-80 season. It was one of their worst seasons in recent times. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers had the second-worst batting average last season. Only the Oakland Athletics were worse than the NY side. Hence, there were a lot of worrying signs ahead of the upcoming season. But the front office made it a pledge that they would land star outfielders this winter.

That’s what the Bombers were able to do. They made significant changes this offseason. Now, they dream to win the World Series coming off one of the worst seasons they had in 2023. But the outfield with Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Alex Verdugo makes the Yankees the most improved in terms of WAR. However, the fans worry that just a one-year deal with Soto is not enough. Albeit, Soto has not played one game yet as a Yankee, the front office might be thinking about extending his contract. Clearly, Brian Cashman knows the value of the Judge-Soto duo in the outfield.

When Juan Soto first became a Yankee, it was understandable that he signed a one-year deal. After all, at the end of the upcoming season, the Dominican superstar will be a free agent. This offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers got the biggest fish in free agency. After the $700 million signing of Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto might ask for no less than a $500 million contract. If Blake Snell’s asking price can be too high for the Yankees, then Soto’s price might be out of reach as well. Moreover, Snell and Soto have the same agent, Scott Boras.

But the 25-year-old superstar is worth every penny. He is a three-time All-Star and a four-time Silver Slugger. Moreover, Soto won the World Series once with the Washington Nationals. Hence, the Yankees should keep him around for a decade or so. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand mentioned that Soto was one of the top candidates to get a long-term extension from their franchise. It is a guarantee that Boras won’t give the Yankees any discount for Juan Soto. His agent would seek every dollar of a contract worth around $500 million.

Moreover, the agent of Juan Soto is popular for being ruthless. Scott Boras has no problem in keeping his clients like Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery still on the market. But the Spring Training is about to start this week. There is a slim to zero chance that Boras will take any discount for the best slugger in the sport.

However, the Yankees know how valuable Juan Soto is for them. At least, now they have a superstar hitting duo after a long time. Now, to keep the Judge-Soto duo intact, the NY side must do anything that’s necessary to convince Boras and Soto. They must convince the hitter and his agent that the Bronx is the place where Juan Soto should play for the rest of his career.
