The New York Yankees had a really great start to the 2024 season. After a terrible 2023 season, the fans were losing hope of experiencing another World Series triumph. But things changed dramatically in the offseason when the Bronx Bombers landed Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham. All of a sudden, the NY side looked like the most improved outfield in terms of WAR. Moreover, the front office boosted their offense really well. Clearly, with Aaron Judge and Juan Soto in the lineup, the offense really looks one of the strongest. Moreover, the NY side had one of the best starts in their franchise history, as they currently are 12-4. They have not lost a series yet.

Clearly, the Yankees have a lot to improve in their defensive lineup. Their pitching lineup still looks pretty shaky. But the offense is helping them dominate the opponent’s pitchers. Moreover, the performances of Juan Soto, Anthony Volpe, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Alex Verdugo have raised hopes. But the Bronx Bombers need their captain, Aaron Judge, to get back to form as fast as possible. Then, the veteran hitters like Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo have shown signs of improvement. But it is still the pitching department that is still a big question mark for the Yankees. Nestor Cortes really disappointed the fans in the game against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday.

Although the Yankees won the series, they would have liked to win 3-0 against the Cleveland franchise. But somehow, the Guardians salvaged the finale of the series against the Bronx Bombers. The Cleveland side won 8-7 in the extra inning. Nestor Cortes started the game well, striking out six opponents in four innings. But then the 29-year-old pitcher faltered, giving away a couple of home runs, four runs, and a walk as well. Anyhow, the Yankees were still leading 7-5. Caleb Ferguson pitched the 10th inning when the Cleveland Guardians scored three. Ferguson is 0-2 in 2024. But the Guardians scored on a forceout, a fielder’s choice, and a sacrifice fly.

Later, the Guardians manager Stephen Vogt mentioned that his team believes in the idea, “We’re not going to quit.” Vogt mentioned one of the things his players were yelling was that they wouldn’t quit. It was the sacrifice fly of Andres Gimenez that capped the three-run rally of the Guardians in the extra inning. When scoring at least four runs, the NY side was 10-0. Anthony Rizzo helped them take a 7-6 lead in the 10th inning with a two-run single off the Guardian’s hurler Tyler Beede. However, several missed opportunities led the Yankees to lose the game on Sunday.

Aaron Boone Said, “It Was A Tough Loss”

Losing against the Guardians on Sunday dropped the NY side to 12-4. Nevertheless, it has been one of the best starts to a season in their famous history. In one run game, the Yankees had been 6-0. Later, in the post-game interview, the Yankees manager mentioned the loss was a tough one.

Moreover, Aaron Boone mentioned that they just did not make certain plays that they needed to. Boone noted that it is always tough when one team grinds through and gets a lead. Even Aaron Judge, who hit a three-run homer, agreed with Boone, saying, “Anyway you lose is a tough one.”
