Sergio Perez, the Mexican native, bagged a job at Red Bull Racing at a time when his Racing Point stint was in shambles. The drink-based outfit not only allowed him an opportunity to stay in F1 but also drive potentially one of the fastest cars then on the grid.

From then, Red Bull Racing went on to achieve greater heights with Max Verstappen bagging three championships in a row. However, Checo got lost in the middle trying to match up to his extraordinary teammate. Amid a difficult season, the Mexican driver opened up on his future plans and how he envisions his RB stint to end.

Sergio Perez Wants To End His F1 Career At Red Bull!

F1

Sergio Perez’s F1 career has been on a significant decline since 2022. Despite Red Bull scaling new heights of success and dominance in the sport, Checo has fallen behind and finds the task of catching up to champion teammate Max Verstappen atrocious. Barring a couple of podiums, Checo has struggled to even break into the top 5 on most race weekends, thus leading to speculations over his axing. Meanwhile, RBR allowed him an extension contract and secured his job again during the summer break. However, multiple clauses in his contract reportedly suggest that Perez could lose his seat this year if he fails to maintain certain points. Moreover, with the Bulls likely to be defeated in the constructors’ title, Checo’s tenure is more or less over.

However, Sergio Perez still hopes for a fairy tale finish. He acknowledged that his F1 career is timed and there would come a time when he wouldn’t be able to sustain himself away from his family. “I know that I’m towards the end of my career because I don’t want to do it for too long,” Checo said. While the Mexican driver was unsure of a timeline, finishing things off at Red Bull remains his ultimate dream. Checo explained that the Bulls have given him a lot in the past few years. And if he can repay with a few championships, that would be the perfect fairytale ending. “It’s a team that has given me everything, and I want to give everything back to them as well,” Checo said. However, it remains to be seen if Red Bull feels the same as, momentarily, everybody seems frustrated at the driver.

Before Sergio Perez calls it quits, perhaps Red Bull Racing could lose champion driver Max Verstappen as the Dutchman is reportedly seeking an exit as soon as possible. As per Blick publication, Verstappen has cut ties with Christian Horner over Adrian Newey and Johnathan Wheatley’s abrupt exit.

Not only that, Max Verstappen has lost faith in the team’s ability to bounce back after a recent setback. While Max’s camp believes that staying until the 2028 contract expiration is out of the picture, the lack of available seats in top teams could encourage the driver to embrace a year-long sabbatical from F1.
