With the recent loss to the New York Mets, the New York Yankees are on the cusp of losing four series on the trot. They are still leading AL-East with a 52-29 record, largely because the Orioles have been losing too since trashing the Yanks 17-5 last week.

However, the New York Yankees have seen alarming signs in the offence for over a week now and chose to do nothing about it. And the Subway series opener left them exposed from all fronts, especially the lower hitting order. Hence, before things turn catastrophic, the Yanks need their veteran to turn up on the plate now.

The New York Yankees’ 9-7 loss to the New York Mets exposed the lower-order hitting woes massively as Gleyber Torres, DJ LeMahieu, Jahmai Jones, and J.D Davis went hitless throughout the game. While Jones and Davis are still settling in, Torres and DJ have been here long enough, and hence, the expectations from the duo were immense. To add to the misery, Torres and LeMahieu also committed two errors, after which the Mets extended their lead comfortably. Meanwhile, Mets’ David Peterson wasn’t having a great night as he allowed three back-to-back walks to Anthony Volpe, Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. However, the Yanks missed the opportunity to score as Torres, Verdugo and Davis were struck out, thus leaving base runners stranded.

With another sad outing, Gleyber Torres’ average has fallen to .215 and slugging percentage to .333. Not only that, the Yankees have the fifth-worst OPS at second and fourth-worst at third base. While one may question the duo’s presence in the starting lineup, the reality is that the team is lacking options. Jasson Dominguez is hurt with an oblique strain, and Oswald Peraza has lost his charm. Ben Rice has fortunately had strong at-bats. But he is replacing Anthony Rizzo at first base since the veteran fractured his arm in Fenway Park last week. Overall, baseball is a team game, and hence, despite Juan Soto and Aaron Judge’s sublime form, the Yankees cannot rely on a two-member offence. To ensure long-term success in the postseason, the lower-hitting order must get their act together and unleash their full potential to bring glory to the Bronx.

Gleyber Torres Says Tight Groin Led To Miscues In Field

Gleyber Torres committed a costly error at second base against the Mets. And after heavy backlash, he used his groin injury as an excuse to justify his error. Torres strained his groin last week and sat a game out as a precaution. He was included back in the Yankees starring lineup, stating that the imaging scans were negative.

However, Gleyber Torres said on Tuesday that his groin felt tight during his at-bat in the 8th inning, and that’s why he didn’t run hard out of the box to first base. Regardless, Yankees manager Aaron Boone reprimanded Torres for the error and stated that these plays must be secured. “We’ve got to get him going,” said Boone.
