The New York Yankees had a great start in the 2024 regular season. But then, suddenly, they started to fade away. The NY side was looking like a top contender for the World Series in the first two months of the ongoing season. However, since June 15, things have been going downhill for the 27-time World Champions. They have had the third-worst batting average in baseball (.225). Moreover, the team has been looking overly dependent on two or three hitters.

But the rest of the players in the lineup had been inconsistent. Hence, ahead of the trade deadline, the Yankees must look to certain trade packages. They might want to bolster their lineup with top pitchers like Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers. Then, there are more options available for Brian Cashman and co. But to land the options they want, they will have to consider trading certain options as well.

What Are The Top Prospects The Yankees Can Trade?

The New York Yankees can consider trading their no.5 prospect, Everson Pereira. He is looking ready for the big league. In the minors, he has been hitting really well. However, in the immediate future, he has no clear spot on the Yankees roster. For the foreseeable future, the NY side might want Juan Soto and Aaron Judge to occupy a couple of the three outfield spots. In the pecking order, Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones are both ahead of Everson Pereira. Hence, he is perfect for trade. But the one problem is that he underwent elbow surgery in June. Now, as he recovers, he will miss the remainder of the 2024 season. As a result, his value decreases but does not diminish. Prior to his injury, Pereira was hitting .859 OPS in 40 games with 10 homers. Since he is not healthy right now, he might not draw the same return, but he still can be a major factor if the NY side wants to move him.

Secondly, the Yankees can use their no. 10 prospect, Brock Selvidge, for a trade package. Selvidge finds himself on the trade block. He really takes after Andy Pettitte. The fans might not like to see the NY side trade another left-handed pitcher. He is one of the top prospects for a starting pitcher. Moreover, Selvidge has seen a quick rise in the ranks of the Bronx Bombers. He was one of the team’s third-round picks in 2021. Earlier this month, the Yankees had to sideline him for the MLB Future Games due to biceps soreness. Anyway, the New York Post’s Joel Sherman reported that Selvidge’s injury was not that serious.

NY Side Might Also Take A Risk With A No. 20 Prospect Deal

Why the Yankees might take a risk if they trade Agustin Ramirez because Jose Trevino and Austin Wells have not really lit the world on fire. Moreover, Trevino is also on the Injured List. However, the reality is that Ramirez might never be projected as a catcher in the big league anyway. He played 58 games in Double-A Somerset, recording a .942 OPS and 16 Home Runs. Moreover, he is still trying to find his stroke in Triple-A. However, there is one scout who informed Joel Sherman that he thinks Ramirez will contribute to a Major League team.

The no. 20 prospect has been struggling behind the plate due to a lack of agility. As per MLB Pipeline, Ramirez might work better at first base. That’s actually another need of concern for the Yankees. But at present, they are relying on Ben Rice, who will continue hitting until Anthony Rizzo returns and is productive.
