`Sir Lewis Hamilton has been struggling to win a race since 2022 because Mercedes lost their grip on the title. Not just that, the Silver Arrows even fail to understand what gets their car to go faster in the cost cap era. It has been a very weird transition for the German team. Even in 2021, they had the fastest car on the grid. But as the cost cap era started, things went downhill for the Brackley team from there on. The Austrian team has been dominating the sport in a quite unprecedented manner.

In 2022, they won 17 races, followed by 21 in 2023, and they have won two already in 2024. On the other hand, Mercedes has managed to win one race since 2022. Lewis Hamilton has remained winless since 2022. Clearly, Hamilton realized that he wouldn’t be able to win his coveted eighth title with Mercedes. Hence, he decided to move to Ferrari to have a better chance of winning races. So far in 2024, Ferrari looked far better than the Silver Arrows. In his final season with Mercedes, Hamilton says that he is getting used to the “Flat Feeling now.”

For the third year in a row, Mercedes has little or no clue of what makes their car go fast or even slow. Their inability to understand the car well made life difficult for the 39-year-old superstar. He did not have a great qualifying session at the latest Australian Grand Prix. On Sunday, Lewis Hamilton will start the race from P11, whereas his teammate George Russell will be at P7. As per F1 stats, the seven-time champion has started from the pole position in Melbourne eight times. But in the last few years, things have gotten really worse for the great Briton. According to GrandPrix247, Lewis Hamilton mentioned he is getting used to Q2 knockouts.

Adding to that, Hamilton said in the post-qualifying interview, “It’s a flat feeling. Not great, for sure.” Moreover, he feels like all weekend long, “It’s been a bit of a fight.” When things are not going his way, how does the seven-time champion handle the situation? Lewis Hamilton replied that he was trying to keep his head above the water. Moreover, he continues to realize that it could have been much worse. When he got knocked out early in the qualifying session in Melbourne, George Russell had a far better race driving the Mercedes W15.

Lewis Hamilton explained how he is coping with the harsh truth that it will be another year full of struggles. It is even worse, as 2024 will be his last season in Mercedes colors. Hamilton said he definitely is not feeling great. But the seven-time champion praised his young teammate.

Moreover, Lewis Hamilton mentioned that Russell has been much more consistent than he was with the 2024 challenger. Adding to that, Hamilton mentioned George Russell out-qualified him in three qualifying sessions on the trot. Perhaps Russell is getting on a lot better than Hamilton is doing. Even Toto Wolff said they have a difficult car yet again, he thinks.
