Lewis Hamilton discussed the challenges of capturing the essence of racing movies during an appearance on the popular YouTube series Hot Ones. He emphasized the difficulty of authentically portraying the speed and intensity of racing in film. Further, Hamilton explained that due to practical limitations, filming involves following cars with cameras attached to trucks, which cannot match the high racing speeds. As a result, scenes are often shot at slower speeds and then sped up to create the illusion of racing at full throttle.

Moreover, the Briton compared earlier eras in filmmaking, citing methods used by icons like Steve McQueen, where cameras were mounted in daring positions such as on the hoods of cars or even on drivers’ helmets. Subsequently, he contrasted these methods with contemporary technological advancements, which allowed for more innovative and realistic filming techniques. Hamilton expressed confidence in Joseph Kosinski, the director of an upcoming racing movie starring Brad Pitt, suggesting that Kosinski’s approach and use of cutting-edge technology would impress audiences with their authenticity and cinematic impact.
