An 82-80 record MLB season shattered the New York Yankees core from within. Never in a million years would the franchise have imagined hitting rock bottom with one of the strongest roster at their helm. But ultimately, MLB has its own way of humbling even the invincible forces of the unpredictable game of baseball.

While the New York Yankees got humbled in 2023, an imminent comeback in the 2024 season cannot be ruled out. A franchise accustomed to unparalleled success is leaving no stone unturned to put together one of the most competitive rosters. Thus, ahead of spring training, a couple of popular MLB insiders discussed the Bronx Bombers’ odds of winning a championship in 2024.

This off-season, the New York Yankees enhanced their hitting lineup by adding superstar Juan Soto to the roster. Additionally, Trent Grisham and Alex Verdugo also made their way to the Bronx via trade deals. While NYY succeeded in addressing offensive needs, the pitching depth went for a toss. After the team traded a ridiculous number of pitchers to land Soto and Verdugo, the front office failed to land Yoshinobu Yamamoto as well. Nonetheless, MLB insider Jon Heyman feels that a reunion with Jordan Montgomery is probably in the cards. The Yanks always liked his skill set, and now that he is a complete postseason pitcher, he would fill the void in the starting rotation. Thus, overall, Heyman expects NYY to address pitching needs before spring training commences in February.

Later on in the episode of The Show, Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman discussed the New York Yankees’ championship-winning odds for the impending season. The duo agreed that the Yanks are a potential World Series-winning contender. They have a potent roster but kind of underachieved in 2023 owing to unfortunate injuries. Heyman added that just because the likes of Aaron Judge, Nestor Cortes, and Carlos Rodon stayed in IL in 2023 does not mean they would injured against next year. Additionally, in Juan Soto, the Bombers now have one of the best hitting of the game. “So with a good pitcher, I think they are going to be really good,” added Heyman. While the duo agreed that nobody is stronger than LA Dodgers at the moment, the Yanks are also one of the strongest contenders in AL.

Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman indirectly suggested that New York Yankees and free agent Jordan Montgomery share a mutual interest in a reunion this off-season. NYY traded Jordan to Cardinal in 2022, and he recently won the World Series with the Texas Rangers. While the Rangers’ stance on extension is unclear, the Bombers are impressed with Montgomery’s breakout season.

Thus, the Yankees seek a reunion, and interestingly, Jordan Montgomery seems keen on re-joining forces in the Bronx. Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman hinted at the same. Besides Montgomery, two-time CY Young awardee Blake Snell is also floated as a person of interest for Yanks. But the Padres seem likely to make a strong push for an extension.
