The Red Bull team had a nightmare in their own backyard. The Austrian GP was a forgetful weekend for the home team, full of collisions and penalties. Red Bull starlet Max Verstappen collided with McLaren’s Lando Norris and endured demerit points for reckless driving.

Moreover, The RBR team performed well during the Spanish and Canada GP. They were aiming to re-establish domination after a turbulent period of internal mayhem. Since the political power struggle began, things didn’t look good within the Milton Keynes-based squad. Thus, the team was upbeat with consecutive victories. However, just when the sky seemed clear, the clouds returned with a heavy downpour. As a result, the Austrian GP turned out to be a disaster for Verstappen & CO. The team’s senior advisor, Helmut Marko, remains optimistic as he discusses the upcoming upgrades for the squad.

The Red Bull chariot was reigning the racing circuit as they were almost unbeaten in the 2023 season. The energy drink-based outfit was excited to replicate the feat in 2024, and they started on the correct note. However, as the season progressed, the rivals caught up with the champions, as the technical team ran out of innovation gas. Thus, the chasing packs started learning from the table toppers, as there was no room for any new advancement. As a result, Max Verstappen got the season’s first defeat by Ferrari in the Australian GP. Meanwhile, the dynamic outside the racing circuit, which was full of drama and controversy, also affected the team’s performance. Therefore, as a culmination of pressure from rivals and internal chaos, the chariot lost its pace. Teams like McLaren and Ferrari continued to provide stiff competition, making victories harder to come by for Max Verstappen. Winning was no longer as easy as it once was for the champion driver.

Further, during the Miami GP, Lando Norris halted Verstappen’s winning streak on the Hard Rock circuit. While the Dutchman bounced back and steered the team to victory in Imola, the Monaco GP became one of the worst outings of the season. The RB20 was out of control, bouncing like a rubber ball. However, the RBR squad made a solid comeback, winning back-to-back titles. The team believed they could continue this form, as the home GP is their fortress. However, contrary to their expectations, everything went downhill as Verstappen crashed with Norris, ending the race on P5.

Thus, after a disastrous outcome, Helmut Marko has explained the team’s next step. Speaking to OE24, Marko said the team will ‘hit back,’ as they’re determined to bounce back. He hinted that the team would bring a radical upgrade to the Silverstone GP. The Austrian said the team’s only goal is to win the world title, and the Austrian GP helped them to introspect before moving ahead.
