Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson won four NBA Championships for the Golden State Warriors together. Fans call them the ‘Splash Brothers.’ They revolutionized the three-point shot in the NBA. People credit them for changing the game forever. Clearly, they have been one of the most dynamic duos in the game of basketball of all time. From 2015 to 2019, the Splash Brothers helped the Dubs reach the NBA Finals, winning three times during that period. The last championship success for the iconic duo came in 2022. However, in the last couple of years things have changed so drastically. In the 2022-2023 edition, the Golden State Warriors could not make it to the conference finals.

They lost to their iconic rival LeBron James, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the WCF. Then, in the latest season, the Dubs could not even make the playoffs. They lost to the Sacramento Kings in the play-in tournament. Klay Thompson had one of his worst games ever, as he scored zero points. Clearly, the Splash Brothers have not been at their best in the last two years. Lately, there has been another duo making a lot of noise – the Jaylen Brown-Jayson Tatum duo of the Boston Celtics. After the 2023-2024 NBA Finals, a former NBA guard called the Dub’s Splash Brothers “Corny.”

Recently, on the podcast, ‘Point Forward,’ Evan Turner talked about the iconic Warriors duo with former Dubs forward, Andre Iguodala. The former guard believes Klay and Steph failed to capitalize on their success on the court back in those eight years from 2015 to 2022. As a result, young stars got the opportunity to prove themselves due to the failure of the Splash Brothers. The former guard, Turner said, “The best duos are about to emerge.” He believes at the moment, the Brown-Tatum duo are the best in the league. Moreover, they proved their worth winning the 2023-2024 title. Evan Turner feels the Celtics duo can even go on to do an “R&B Album!”

After all, he believes they are going to be rich as they keep winning more. Then, Turner proceeded to compare the Jaylen Brown-Jayson Tatum duo with the Splash Brothers. He said, “Imagine if Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry weren’t that corny.” Moreover, the former guard feels Thompson and Curry had the “World in a chokehold.” It was dangerous as they were on fire. They changed the game with their three-point shooting. But Evan Turner thinks the Splash Bros should have used their marketing opportunities more than they have. The former guard believes they could have been bigger brand names.

Why Splash Brothers Failed To Use The Marketing Opportunities?

Evan Turner said Curry and Thompson could have seized the moment when the Warriors were going through that historic run. He said, “Dog, the Curry Shoes could have been the new Jordans of the generation.” However, later, in the podcast discussion, Turner retracted his claim that Stephen Curry & Klay Thompson are ‘Corny.” But he says when they were the couple of “Beige dudes” they should have had the “World.”

Andre Iguodala replied that he would not put the blame for that on Stephen Curry entirely. But Evan Turner said the worst thing the Warriors did was to fire Mark Jackson. That’s how they missed a perfect source of marketing pitches. Nonetheless, both Curry and Thompson seem to have a lot of fun off the court. They look successful and very happy. Hence, being ‘Corny’ or whatever is not that bad for them.
