The New York Yankees started the season brilliantly after winning their opening 2024 series against the Houston Astros. They beat their modern-day rivals by a clean sweep. Later, the NY side started the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a win. Hence, they won five in a row. It was a great way to start the 2024 season, which they had many expectations for. However, later, the 2023 NL Champions bounced back strong, beating the visitors 7-0 in the second game of the series. Subsequently, the Bronx Bombers almost lost back-to-back games against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. But they hold on to their nerves to see it through.

It was a really close game, which the Yankees eventually won 6-5 in overtime. There are a lot of positives to take away from the game for both sides. But the NY side must be wary about their bullpen collapse from here on. Anyhow, the offense of the Bombers might be just too strong for the opponent hurlers. Moreover, the good news for the Yankees is the return to form of their captain. Clearly, they delighted themselves as well as the fans after a 6-1 season-opening road trip. Now, they will return home for some more exciting games.

Fans are really happy to welcome the Yankees, who are coming home in style. They won the season-opening road trip 6-1, beating their modern-day rivals, the Astros, and the NL 2023 Champions, the D-backs. On Wednesday afternoon, the NY side had to work overtime, but they were resilient enough to come out with a victory. As per The New York Post, Aaron Judge said in the post-game interview that it was an “All-round great win.” It was the Yankees captain who drove in the 11th innings and hit a home run as well as an RBI double. Later, the left fielder Alex Verdugo mentioned that looking at the big picture a week does not really make a big difference.

However, the former Boston Red Sox outfielder also said that starting the season in that grand style and maintaining the momentum was huge. Moreover, Verdugo mentioned that everybody in the dugout knows how good they are and what they are capable of accomplishing. On top of that, Alex Verdugo also noted the importance of going out there every day with the “Dawg mentality.” He knows that it won’t come easy all the time. But the team must keep fighting for it, and Verdugo said they have been doing well throughout the week.

The Arizona native hit a clutch home run to make his presence felt offensively on Wednesday at Chase Field. Previously, Verdugo had been pretty active and noticeable defensively. But after he helped the Yankees beat the D-backs, he earned a lot of praise from Aaron Boone. Moreover, the Yankees skipper mentioned that Alex Verdugo had a really impactful trip for the NY side so far.

Boone even joked, saying, “I wish he took some time to think about it.” The Yankees manager feels it meant a lot. Verdugo repeatedly said that the Yankees roster is made up “Of a lot of dawgs.” As a result, after he hit the two-run homer in the 10th inning, his teammates were barking to welcome him back to the dugout. It was a nice nod to their left fielder.
