The FIA’s strict regulations are designed to create a level playing field in Formula 1, ensuring that every team competes under the same conditions. These rules are vital to maintaining the intense rivalries that make the sport thrilling. However, teams occasionally seek loopholes in the regulations to gain an advantage.
Recently, Red Bull came under scrutiny for allegedly bending these rules. The team reportedly admitted to using an unauthorized device prior to each race. This device, which adjusts the height of the front bib, violated the Parc Ferme regulations that prevent teams from making significant modifications to their cars between qualifying and the race. By doing so, Red Bull gained an unfair edge over its competitors. However, FIA has not announced any penalty for the Bulls. Thus, McLaren’s spearhead, Zak Brown, is unhappy with the conduct, asking for more transparency.
“I’d Like Some More Answers,” Zak Brown Targets Red Bull After Front Bib Conundrum
McLaren boss Zak Brown has expressed dissatisfaction with how the Red Bull front bib saga has been handled, calling for a more thorough investigation by the F1 governing body. Even before the US Grand Prix started, rumors emerged about a team allegedly using a device to adjust ride height during parc ferme conditions, which raised eyebrows.
Brown voiced concerns over the transparency of the process, highlighting that Red Bull was the only team whose design differed from the other nine competitors. He emphasized that he and other team principals still have lingering questions that need answers. Brown stressed the importance of complete transparency and suggested that the investigation should continue until the FIA addresses these concerns fully. While awaiting further clarification, he remains cautious about concluding until more definitive information is provided.
Red Bull received approval from the FIA after proactively informing them that changes were being made to their car. This followed reports that the FIA had instructed a team to make adjustments. Red Bull’s spokesperson quickly addressed the media to confirm the changes. However, McLaren’s boss has a different perspective. He believes Red Bull had no choice but to admit the situation, given the circumstances. Brown pointed out that Red Bull had undeniable access to the front bib from inside the cockpit. In his view, the team had to acknowledge this capability. Brown emphasized that McLaren, along with the other eight teams, did not have such access, making Red Bull’s position inevitable.
Red Bull Might Get A Retroactive Punishment
A small screw system, known as the tea sprung, located in the cockpit, is currently under scrutiny for its role in adjusting the height of the front bib. While all Formula 1 teams use this system, Red Bull is suspected of modifying it during the Parc Ferme period. If the FIA finds proof that Red Bull altered the bib height between Saturday and Sunday, it could spell serious trouble for the team. However, the governing body plans to use seals to prevent any modifications during Parc Ferme, which might allow Red Bull to avoid penalties and emerge clean from this situation.
