The New York Yankees are playing with a big gap in the starting rotation this year. The gap is significant as ace Gerrit Cole has been sidelined due to nerve elbow inflammation injury. Cole has been out since spring as he got diagnosed with serious issue in his pitching elbow.

While Gerrit Cole dodged a Tommy John surgery, he was still placed on IL for 6-8 weeks. Needless to say, the absence of a pitcher of Cole’s caliber is not easy on any team. However, the New York Yankees so far have coped just fine as captain Aaron Judge recently heaped praise on the starters resilience.

With reigning AL CY Young pitcher Gerrit Cole sidelined, the New York Yankees’ starting rotation faced increased pressure to deliver consistent performances and keep the team competitive in crucial matchups. However, interestingly, the pitchers exceeded expectations to stay put. The likes of Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes, and Marcus Stroman have stepped up nicely to cover up for Cole’s absence as much as possible. That being said, despite the setback, captain Aaron Judge commended the rotation for stepping up to the challenge and standing tall in Cole’s absence. He lauded their ability to maintain a high level of performance to aid the team’s strong start to the 2024 MLB season.

“We’re missing the best pitcher in baseball, and your staff is still unable to do that. It speaks volumes with the guys we got,” said Aaron Judge. Notably, Judge’s praise for the rotation reflects the team’s confidence in their pitching staff and their belief in their ability to overcome adversity. Despite facing setbacks and injuries, the Yankees remain focused on their goal of competing at the highest level and making a deep postseason run. Not only that, Judge’s comments serve as a testament to the team’s resilience and determination to succeed, even in the face of adversity. Overall, With Gerrit Cole‘s eventual return on the horizon, the Yanks look to build on the momentum generated by their rotation and continue their pursuit of greatness in the weeks and months ahead.

Gerrit Cole To Throw From Mound Next Week!

AP

In a major step towards a timely return, New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole is set to start throwing from the mound next week. Team manager Aaron Boone recently confirmed the same. He updated that Cole threw 50 throws from 120 feet, which is the maximum length for a rehabbing pitcher. While the ace pitcher hasn’t faced any setbacks whatsoever, his return timeline is still uncertain.

When Gerrit Cole was quizzed about the same, he refused to reveal a specific date. Cole admitted that his rehab so far has been excellent. However, he would only know where he stands once he starts throwing from the mound next week. Notably, Cole isn’t eligible to return until the final week of May, and by the early looks, it may be longer before the ace could be seen in pinstripes next.
