CHECKOUT: Boss Toto Wolff Shows Vote Of Confidence For Lewis Hamilton Amid Season Turmoil

Toto and Lewis F1 16 2024

Lewis Hamilton is undoubtedly a legend of motorsports. The Briton has won seven world championships and holds many world records. However, the champion racer is going through a rough patch. The ground-effect regulations have been Mercedes and Hamilton’s biggest foe. Since the rules were enacted by FIA in 2022, the team has not won a single race.

The Chinese GP marked another disappointment for Mercedes, extending their winless streak. The technical team had made many adjustments ahead of the sprint and main event, aiming to improve the car’s performance. However, these upgrades didn’t go as planned and had the opposite effect. In a candid admission, Lewis Hamilton acknowledged that the changes were ‘too much.’ Despite this setback, the Mercedes team boss, Toto Wolff, throws his support behind his superstar driver ahead of the Miami GP.

GP Fans

Every F1 fan would accept that Hamilton is among the greatest drivers ever. Despite a harrowing run on the tracks, no one doubts his racing abilities. The Mercedes team principal is no different. Toto Wolff reaffirmed his faith in Hamilton amid an unpredictable season. The Austrian, 52, believes Hamilton is ‘A Pro’ and can steer the team through the rough sea despite his impending Ferrari move. In an interview with Autosport, Wolff emphasized Hamilton’s importance in keeping the team morale high. Wolff believes his professional outlook and demeanor are crucial for the upcoming challenges. In addition, the team leader said Hamilton had supported his teammate, George Rusell.

Notably, the seven-time world champion has yet to finish a Sunday F1 race in the top six. However, he was able to finish the sprint second but was pushed back during the main race. The 2024 season has been Hamilton’s worst start since his debut, scoring a mere 19 points in five outings. Moreover, Hamilton wants to channel his energy to overcome the hurdles. He aims to finish his last season with Mercedes on a positive note. After the Japanese GP, Lewis acknowledged his current struggle and stated ‘he wants to win.’

The Mercedes technical team has switched to an orthodox approach for the forthcoming Miami GP. With this change, the Brackley outfit and their drivers would like to reverse misfortune at the sprint weekend.

Ex-F1 Boss Questions Wolff-Hamilton Relationship, Calls It ‘Selfish’

F1i

Bernie Eccleston, former F1 boss, boldly commented on the Wolff-Hamilton relationship. Since Hamilton’s debut for Mercedes, he has shared a close bond with the team boss. Moreover, it was because of their friendship that Hamilton went to Monaco before making his Ferrari move public. On the contrary, Bernie Eccleston is confident that the bond is based on ‘selfish reasons.’

Further, Eccleston added that he would not have hired Lewis Hamilton, calling him an ‘unnecessary handful.’  The ex-F1 leader believes that Wolff let Hamilton enjoy some powers to keep him on board. The Briton’s Ferrari move disheartened Ecclestone. However, the former F1 supremo feels the driver’s bond should be authentic beyond the monetary benefits.
