Scott Effross, the New York Yankees pitcher, had to undergo Tommy John surgery in October two years ago. As a result, the reliever missed all of the 2023 season. Anyhow, he did not get to play in the horrible season for the NY side. Who knows how much difference Effross could have made in 2023 if he had not undergone surgery? But the last season saw the Bronx Bombers go through their worst season in 30 years. Moreover, the NY side finished with an awful 82-80 record. They finished third in the American League East. However, Gerrit Cole had an impressive 2023 season.

The Yankees ace pitcher won the AL Cy Young Award last year. But the offense and outfield of the New York franchise really let them down. Moreover, the Yankees had the second-worst batting average in the league last year. Only the Oakland Athletics were even worse than the Bronx Bombers. But after the NY side made some significant changes this offseason, they are looking far better than last year’s roster. Moreover, Scott Effross was looking forward to joining the team this spring training. Alas, back surgery derails Effros’s road back from Tommy John surgery.

On Wednesday, Aaron Boone mentioned the Yankees reliever had back surgery in December. As a result, it will delay Scott’s return until some time in the summer. However, Effross was looking forward to having a normal spring training in 2024. But late in the fall, the back surgery issue crept up on him, said the Yankees manager to the media, including The New York Post. Moreover, Boone mentioned that Effross tried to work through the back issue. However, eventually, he needed the surgery. It was a setback for the rehab plan after Scott’s Tommy John surgery. Moreover, Aaron Boone mentioned that Scott Effross started his throwing program perhaps last week.

But the whole process is now more convoluted because he was finishing off rehab after Tommy John surgery and then to throw the back issue in the mix. As a result, it will be a slow ramp-up, feels Aaron Boone. On Wednesday, the Yankees placed Scott Effross on a 60-day Injured List. Hence, there is one bullpen spot open for someone like Ron Marinaccio to make with Effross on the IL. Anyway, the Yankees signed Effross back in the 2022 trade deadline. He could only play 13 games, posting a 2.13 ERA, before suffering a torn UCL ahead of the 2022 playoffs.

Jose Trevino is another name on the Yankees Injured List. As per Aaron Boone, Trevino sustained a strained calf injury, recently. He was doing ramp up for spring training. Moreover, Aaron Boone mentioned due to the calf injury, Trevino won’t be able to stay available for the first two weeks of Grapefruit League games.

However, the Yankees skipper mentioned he expects Trevino to be ready ahead of the beginning of the regular season in 2024. Moreover, Boone revealed that Trevino already did some light agility drills on Wednesday. Trevino was also doing catching drills and running as well. Finally, the Yankees manager mentioned that he was responding well. But he expects Trevino to be a little slow.
