Jasson Dominguez has been the top prospect for the New York Yankees since last year. People expected him to make a great debut in the big league. Very early in his debut last season, he showed his power-hitting skills when he hit a home run off future Hall Of Famer Justin Verlander. But then came the bad news, as last year, nothing really worked for the Bronx Bombers. The top prospect suffered a UCL tear. Moreover, he had to undergo Tommy John surgery. As a result, the season was over for Dominguez very shortly.
After his surgery last September, early this year, he started his rehab in the minor league. He was doing pretty well in the minor league, especially in the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre games. Who knows when he could have gotten his callback for the big league? But then he went with a weird check swing and eventually suffered a left oblique strain. Later, Aaron Boone said the injury was “Significant” and ‘The Martian’ would be out for another six to eight weeks. Now, what are the options available for the Yankees to replace Jasson Dominguez?
A. Luis Robert Jr. Can Replace Jasson Dominguez
If the New York Yankees really want to make it to the World Series, they can use some of their top prospects to go all-in for landing Luis Robert Jr. He is currently playing for the Chicago White Sox. The NY side would need to trade some of their top tier prospects to bring in Robert. It might also mean that they would then have to let Jasson Dominguez go to Chicago. Nonetheless, Robert’s a game changer who could be immensely helpful for the Bronx Bombers.
B. Brent Rooker
The Yankees could try to replace Dominguez with another outfielder, Brent Rooker. He is one of the best players that the nine-time champions, the Oakland Athletics currently have. This outfielder might be a pretty costly deal for the NY side. But they are not new to such trades. Moreover, as they push for the playoffs, they will need all the help they can get. Jasson Dominguez is not likely to have game action any time soon. Hence, Rooker can be a potential target.
C. Ryan McMahon
From the Colorado Rockies, Ryan McMahon might be just another costly addition to the Yankees roster. He has been a veteran infielder who has been performing pretty well this year. Not only he could replace Jasson Dominguez. But he could be a worthy replacement for Anthony Rizzo as well who just got on the 60-day Injured List.
D. Spencer Jones – Another Top Prospect Besides Jasson Dominguez
As Jasson Dominguez seems to be on the sidelines for the forseeable future, the Yankees can use another top prospect. Throughout the Spring Training, the hard-hitting Spencer Jones was pretty impressive. But then the NY side sent him to the minor league just before the regular season. So far, he has struggled a little bit in Double-A. Over 54 games, Jones averaged .237 with 6 homers and 32 RBIs.
E. Miguel Andujar
Finally, there is always a possibility of a reunion between New York and Andujar. He is only 29 years old. For the Oakland Athletics, Miguel Andujar has been impressive so far this season. He can be a trade candidate this season. Moreover, the Athletics slugger could be a cheap addition to the outfielder’s depth for the Yankees. Hence, even Andujar can replace Dominguez this summer.
