The New York Yankees previous off-season trade of Juan Soto proved to be a massive success as they advanced to World Series for the first time in 15 years. Soto registered a career best season but will enter free agency this year. Regardless, the Yankee front office must repeat history.

This off-season, the Bronx Bombers must pull off similar trade acquisitions to ensure the roster holes are filled. Outfield and been a massive point of concern and hence a change is the need of the hour. On that note, let’s explore one such trade that is a must for the Yankees as they embark on a decisive free agency.

Yankees Linked To Brewers’ Star Closer

To boost their bullpen for the 2025 season, the New York Yankees could focus on acquiring Devin Williams, the Milwaukee Brewers’ star closer. Williams, 30, has consistently been one of MLB’s top relievers, boasting an ERA under 2.00 over the past three seasons. In 2024, despite limited appearances, he maintained an impressive 1.25 ERA over 21.2 innings. With Williams entering the final year of his contract and the Brewers likely to pick up his club option, a trade could make sense for both teams. Notably, the Yanks are motivated to strengthen their bullpen, especially after an up-and-down 2024 season where Luke Weaver stepped up as closer amidst Clay Holmes’ struggles. Adding a proven reliever like Williams would solidify their late-inning reliability.

However, acquiring Williams won’t come cheap. While Milwaukee is unlikely to receive top Yankees prospects like Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones, New York could start trade discussions with one of their top pitching prospects such as Will Warren (No. 5) or Chase Hampton (No. 6). Including promising outfielders like Everson Pereira (No. 10) and Brando Mayea (No. 13) could form a package that meets Milwaukee’s demands. For the Yanks, trading for Williams would ideally come with the intention of negotiating an extension, ensuring his presence beyond just one season. Meanwhile, for the Brewers, moving Williams would yield valuable young talent rather than risking losing him to free agency without substantial return. In conclusion, executing this trade would allow the Yanks to bolster their bullpen while holding on to their very top prospects, positioning themselves for a strong postseason push.

Blue Jays To Go All In For Juan Soto

Juan Soto is set to be the most pursued free agent this offseason after an exceptional year with the New York Yankees. The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly planning to make an aggressive move to sign him, aiming to strengthen their already formidable lineup that includes stars like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.

This follows their disappointment in narrowly missing out on Shohei Ohtani, who chose the Dodgers the previous year. Notably, Soto’s 2024 season with the Yankees was one of his best, marked by 41 home runs and 108 RBIs. With a contract potentially reaching around $700 million, Soto’s next deal could push even high-budget teams to their financial limits.
