When adversity comes, it comes on all fronts, saying no one would understand this saying better than the New York Yankees. The team has already been struggling this season with bad performance. And now, they have lost another player to an injury. On Friday, the outfielder Andrew Benintendi left the field after getting injured in the game.
Andrew Benintendi Injures His Wrist!
It got worse for the struggling Yankees on Friday night when they lost one of their few reliable hitters. Andrew Benintendi suffered an injury in the third inning of the game against the Rays when he swung at a fastball. He had to exit the game in the middle of his at-bat because of a right wrist injury. Oswaldo Cabrera took over for Benintendi after he quickly grabbed his hand as a result of an uneven swing. Since being acquired in a trade from Kansas City in July, the left-handed-swinging Benintendi has been hitting nicely lately.
Benintendi would get X-Rays at Tropicana Field, the Yankees stated. Additionally, Oswaldo Cabrera had to join the contest to finish the at-bat. Cabrera took his place in the lineup after the experienced outfielder went 1-for-1 with a double in the contest. He was required to enter to complete the at-bat and the Yankees. In spite of the Yankees\’ offensive slump, the left fielder has been a reliable hitter. Benintendi had been a reliable striking. Over the past two weeks, which include the majority of this miserable road trip, the player has batted 292/.327/.458 with two home runs and a.785 OPS.
Manager Aaron Boone also discussed Andrew\’s injury. According to him, \”That would be a big one. He\’s an important guy in the lineup, especially with us struggling as much as we are right now offensively.\”
Tampa Bay Rays Crush Yankees By 9-0!
The Rays did their best on Friday to calm anticipation and quell the buzz surrounding their weekend series against the faltering Yankees. Christian Bethancourt smashed a two-run home run in the seventh inning after Jeffrey Springs had thrown well through the sixth. After defeating the New York Yankees 9-0 on Friday, the Rays closed the gap to the AL East-leading team by five games.
It was the first of six games that would be played between the two teams over the course of ten days. However, New York continued to lose its once-dominant 15 1/2 game lead. Apparently, Friday\’s game appeared to be competitive for a good portion of the evening. The Yankees won 8 of the first 13 games between the teams this season that were decided by two runs or fewer. After scoring six runs in the eighth inning and giving up a two-run Margot single, the Rays won the game.
