Gerrit Cole, the New York Yankees ace pitcher and reigning AL CY Young pitcher, is renowned for his incredible durability on the mound. Since joining the Bronx Bombers, the pitcher has been on the injury list only once, with a left hamstring injury in the COVID-19-shortened season.

Therefore, when Gerrit Cole reported issues with his pitching elbow, the fans, as well as his teammates, were taken aback. While Cole has averted a Tommy John surgery, he is set to miss the first half of the season regardless. Meanwhile, since the injury news broke out, the pitcher spoke out for the first time and opened up on his dreadful experience.

The New York Yankees breathed a sigh of relief when Gerrit Cole was cleared of a UCL tear in his pitching elbow by LA-based specialist surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Cole, who flew out to LA on Thursday, opened up on his injury setback for the first time this weekend. The pitcher said he was relieved when he came out of Dr Neal’s clinic, where he ruled out a Tommy John surgery. Cole further added that he had not had a serious injury since 2016. And thus, the latest setback was an unpleasant experience for him. “It’s not a common experience for me. I haven’t really dealt with anything like this before,” Cole said. Regardless, the reigning AL CY Young pitcher had a lot of faith.

Gerrit Cole revealed that he is diagnosed with nerve inflammation and edema on his pitching elbow, which can be treated with a combination of rest and rehabilitation. Cole confirmed being asked to stop throwing activities for 3-4 weeks. While Gerrit insists on keeping his arm alive, any major throwing program is unlikely to take place for the next month. From them, Cole will increase his build and expects to be major league-ready by late May or early June. That certainly means that the reigning AL CY Young will miss the opening-day series against the Houston Astros. Nestor Cortes has been named as the Yankee’s opening-day starter in Cole’s absence. Overall, Gerrit Cole feels confident of his chances of a quick comeback. And in his absence, he has faith in the rotation to carry on the job with the ball just fine.

DJ LeMahieu Doubtful For Opening Day With Foot Injury Scare!

After Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole, DJ LeMahieu could be another casualty of the New York Yankees’ injury crisis. On Saturday, a foul ball hit DJ in his right foot. While he continued to bat, the veteran underwent X-rays, which fortunately came back negative. But LeMahieu is still not completely out of the woods.

DJ LeMahieu reported soreness in his injured foot on Sunday. However, skipper Aaron Boone believes it’s a day-to-day thing and nothing major. With Oswald Peraza also shut down with a shoulder injury, the New York Yankees lack infield depth in case LeMahieu’s issue aggravates. With opening day just 10 days away, troubles are mounting for the Yankees.
