The Los Angeles Lakers are all set to take back what belongs to them, which is the championship title. Last season, the Denver Nuggets got the better of them to clinch the Conference finals as well as the finale to claim the title. Nevertheless, Hollywood has tied all the loose ends to once again contend for the NBA title.

After locking 13 fixed contracts, the Lakers’ search for a 14th spot ended with veteran center Christian Wood. The team needed a strong center forward who could play second fiddle to Anthony Davis, and Wood happened to be a perfect fit. Meanwhile, ahead of the preseason, the latest signing teased the fans with a strong statement on his pairing with Davis.

After much contemplation and discussions, Christian Wood landed at the Los Angeles Lakers on a two-year veteran minimum contract. While he intended to secure a long-term deal, Hollywood’s budget limitation posed a roadblock. Nevertheless, the center is all pumped up to contribute in every capacity and opportunity. He recently spoke about his pairing with LA’s superstar Anthony Davis. To those unversed, Wood is likely to play second fiddle to Davis to manage the latter’s workload. Wood says that he is a big fan of AD as he has studied and loved his work. The big man is Christian’s favorite player, and he believes him and AD can do wonders together.

Christian Wood’s addition is a big relief for Anthony Davis. Last season, the latter was forced to handle both ends of the court, which took a toll on his health. Now, with Wood’s addition, AD can freely focus on being a rim protector and shot blocker while Wood manages floor spacing and play making. Also, the duo has some existing chemistry as they played together for the New Orleans Pelicans previously. As far as the playing time is concerned, Darvin Ham is fond of the veteran and is expected to hand out a big role to the latter in the rotation. It would be interesting to see how Christian Wood gels into the roster and how he can contribute.

Meanwhile, Anthony Davis, who spent the majority of his time playing center last season, wants to dump that position in the 2023-23 NBA season. Davis succeeded well in the center position, and it has also been a natural position throughout his professional basketball career. However, now, AD apparently wants to play forward. As per Dave McMenamin of ESPN, Davis has asked the Lakers to allow him to play more in a power-forward position.

However, the move could endanger LeBron James’ effectiveness as he is in his 21st NBA season. If Anthony Davis moves forward, the responsibility to defend the rim will fall on James’ shoulder. One has to understand that LeBron will turn 39 this year and cannot defend young guys in their prime. Moreover, the Lakers cannot compromise on Bron as he is arguably the lead offensive contributor. Thus, Davis is gonna have to settle at the center position, whether he likes it or not.
