RCB's Auction Dilemma: Insights from Mike Hesson

Chahal's Missed Opportunity:  Former RCB Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson, revealed the franchise's plan to buy back Yuzvendra Chahal at the 2022 IPL auction, emphasizing his value as one of the top players in RCB's history.

Retentions Strategy:  RCB's decision to retain only three players ahead of the auction was aimed at securing both Harshal Patel and Chahal. This strategy allowed for extra funds but made acquiring Chahal challenging due to his lower position in the auction list.

Missed Communication:  Despite Chahal's significant contribution to RCB in previous seasons, he went unsold until Rajasthan Royals bought him. Chahal expressed surprise at not receiving communication from RCB post-auction

Tilak Varma's Miss:  Hesson revealed that RCB had an eye on Tilak Varma but opted for Rajat Patidar instead. Varma's success in the IPL highlighted his potential, suggesting RCB might have missed an opportunity.

Auction Strategy Analysis:  Hesson criticized RCB's bidding approach, citing the hefty amounts spent on Pat Cummins and Cameron Green. Overspending on Cummins weakened RCB's bargaining position, making it challenging to compete effectively in the auction.

Position of Strength:  Hesson suggested that RCB's auction strategy weakened their position of strength, especially after committing a significant sum to Green. This approach limited their flexibility and ability to outbid other teams.
